Well another week, another festival! This week is the Dynamite Bait festival here at White Acres and once again it is a sell out with 180 anglers here who will be heading to the banks of Pollawyn, Twin Oaks/Trelawney, Gwinear, Porth & Bolingey to fish the Festival. Dynamite Baits are one of our longest festival sponsors and this year they have upped their sponsorship even more for the winners and also all 180 anglers will be walking away later in the week with the best goodie bag they have ever supplied. The weekend leading up to the festival has been very mixed weather wise, we have gone from glorious sunshine to torrential rain so we are keeping our fingers crossed that we have plenty of the former but none of the latter!
Day One
It was a frantic start to the day, not only does the draw take a little longer as we clarify the rules and running of the festival but also we had the EA here checking rod licences, we are happy to announce that all 180 anglers were in possession of their licences so the show was ready to go on! Day one has been abysmal weather wise and I think there will be a few hot toddies consumed tonight to restore normal body temperatures! Despite the rain the festival has got off to a good start so read on to find out today’s catch action and who has picked up those first magical section points.
A Section Pollawyn
Pollawyn has got off to a good start and despite the anglers being soaking wet all day there were some great catches. The lake winner today was Matt Pillay on peg 17; Matt fished the pellet waggler and ended up with a great haul of carp weighing 134lb 5oz. Rob Wootton was second with 102lb 4oz, Rob was on peg 25 and caught on the pellet waggler and the meat feeder. Third on peg 28 was Ben Fisk, Ben caught on the pellet waggler and the meat feeder to the aerator for a weight of 98lb 5oz. The next best weight on the lake was 97lb 5oz and this came from Tony Wynnick on peg 27, Tony struggled a bit at first but caught late on the pole.

C Section Gwinear
Not the best of starts on Gwinear today, we thought with the addition of pellets in this festival the fish would feed a bit more but with the cold water from the recent rain going into the lake this had not helped but just added to the fact the fish have really shoaled up in some areas of the lake and are simply not feeding. The lake winner today with 77lb 2oz was Paul Taylor on peg 24; Paul caught 20 carp on the pole at 11 meters with soft pellet on the hook. Second was Nigel Smith, Nigel caught at 13 meters on the pole with pellet for a weight of 67lb 2oz from peg 14. Phil Ringer was third with 55lb 5oz; Phil was on peg 9 and caught on the long pole with pellet. Scott Wilding 9 points peg 55 10lb 7oz
D Section Porth
The weights on Porth have increased since last festival but still has a lot of room for improvement, the weather is due to come in better this week so we are hoping that this adds to the fishing not just on this lake but on all of them. The Lake winner today with 12lb 6oz was Vic Molyneux, Vic was on peg 39 and caught on the pole at 13 meters with caster and maggots. Steve Ringer was second on the lake; Steve was on peg 75 and caught on the pole with maggot over groundbait for a weight of 12lb 2oz. It was a mixed day on Pollawyn today as those anglers that drew the high bank and virtually skipped to their pegs were slightly disappointed, as the fish have begun to move. It is about this time each year that the bream begin to move to the far ends of the lake and down in to the arms and the familiar “munters” that lurk around the high bank follow them. So that was day three and what a change around it has been, it is very very rare that we reach the midway point in the festival with no one on maximum points so this is a bit of a first for us. This is going to be a close one with both amazing weights and very close points across the top 30 on the festival, can Will sneak up there and do the festival double or will Steve Ringer creep his way up there or can we see a fresh name on the trophy this year? Stay tuned for more news on what is turning out to be a very close and exciting festival.

So Andy has just managed to hold onto his advantage today but as we all know anything can happen on the final day and that is before the dropped result comes into play. There is a very strong pack chasing Andy and with these impressive weights we all know this is going to be a very close festival. Andy needs another section win to keep him up there and in the clear but with the calibre of anglers in the above list, who will no doubt pull out all the stops to secure themselves a position, we will just have to wait and see. I will get the results up as soon as I can on Saturday.
Final Day
Well here is the report from day five of the 2008 Dynamite Baits festival, by now you all should know the winner, but if you done, the victorious angler was no other that Mr Steve Ringer. We have managed to collate a bit of catch/action so here is how the final day panned out.Day Five
Day five was a gloriously sunny day for most but there was still a brisk breeze in the air, the catches so far this week have been great and today was no exception, despite a weeks worth of matches, most of the lakes still seem to be on top form.
A Section Bolingey
It was another top bagging on Bolingey today and the lake winner was non other than our ex-employee Adam “fog horn” Wakelin, Adam was on peg 20 and had a weight of 196lb (Ben Goldring said that this was a waste of a peg and should have caught at least 200lbs – so Adz if you ever read this make sure you give Ben a proper slap next time you see him!!) caught on the long pole and waggler with pellet. Second with 170lb 10oz was Gary White, Gary was on peg 38 and caught in the left hand margin. Stewart Lister was third with 144lb 13oz, Stewart caught in the long pole to the far bank with pellet from peg 7. Lee Kerry on peg 22 had the next best weight, Lee caught down the edge for a weight of 128lb 13oz.

D Section Gwinear
Not much catch info from Gwinear I’m afraid and the catch info I do have doesn’t seem to be correct as I’m sure “shallots” are not on the permitted bait list!! Joe Carass was the lake winner; Joe was on peg 28 and had a weight of 174lb 4oz. Second with 99lb 12oz, was Ian Hudson, Ian was on peg 25 and caught on pellet shallow. E Section Porth
Another hard day on Porth but saying that we have seen the highest weights so far this week so it goes to show the fish are there you just need the right angler on the right peg making the correct decision to catch them. We hope that the fish begin to move up the lake a bit more for the next festival. Today’s lake winner on peg 84 was Will Raison with 19lb. Second went to Steve Cooke on peg 88 with 16lb 13oz, third with 11lb 8oz was Alan Scotthorne and the next best weight came from Andy Stonner on peg 32 with 11lb 4oz.

So Steve Ringer has won another White Acres Festival, This years top Twenty is not only comprised of the accomplished White Acres anglers but a few up and coming names in the angling world and a few Steve might have to look out for it the future.
I must take this occasion to once again thank Dynamite Baits for the continued support and sponsorship; the goodies they provided this year were excellent as well as increasing the prizes for the overall winners. I think you’ll all agree it has been another top festival and I would like to thank the anglers that took part for making it such a successful event and we shall see you next year for the 2009 festival!
Cheers, Kirsty |
