Maver Festival 2008 |
|
 |
 |
Welcome to the Maver Festival, this is the first of our autumn festivals here at White Acres. The festival is a sell out with 180 anglers making the journey to Cornwall from across the UK to fish the 5-day event. This year sees a new venue introduced to the festival, and seeing as it had not been fished yet we have yet to know how the anglers will get on.
For some this is a warm up for next week’s festival whilst for others it is their final chance of qualification and for many it is just a chance to come and do some fishing, see old friends, hopefully pick up a few lucky envelopes and generally consume a large amount of beer!We have anticipated that this is probably going to be one of the toughest festivals fished at White Acres as we are still investigating the fish losses we have suffered from.
On the weeks leading up to the festival the lakes have been packed with no spare pegs on the complex and the pressure has been reflected in the match results. Having said that the stage is set for a tough battle and whether you are fishing 200lbs or 20lbs the matches are going to be tight and the format remains the same regardless of weight so watch this space for the weeks results.

So 3 days and 3 section wins for Steve Ringer, can he keep up this spotless score? There are 2 days of the festival left and we have all seen things change rapidly from here, stay tuned to find out it Steve is going to make it a perfect score or if one of those with tight back up points will sneak in there.
Day Four
If our summer only lasted a week then our autumn has only lasted two days as I’m sure it is now winter! It is freezing down here and the smaller anglers have requested tent pegs to keep them pinned to their boxes, as the wind is so strong they are struggling to stay upright.
By day four of the festival we usually have a pretty good idea of the main framers for the festival but we are struggling this week, Steve Ringer has once again secured a section win today so is guaranteed another White Acres top three position but the rest of the positions in the top ten is proving hard to predict as the points are extremely tough and as anyone knows once the dropped result comes into play anything can happen. Read on to find out about day four and how the top twenty looks going into the final day.

So that was day four and it is tight at the top. Steve needs to secure a win on the final day to take the victory but if he drops any points Des could sneak up there. It is going to be a close call whichever way it goes.
The results will be posted as soon as possible in the morning.
Final Day
I cant quite believe we have come to the end of the week already, on one hand time has flown by but on the other it seemed that on the day that we had KHV confirmed everything was going in slow motion, it has been devastating news for all of us, not just for the park but also for the anglers as we like to be able to provide the best fishing possible.
This is one problem we are not going to let get to us, this week we have had to put up with more than a few moans and groans but we have had even more kind words of support from anglers not only fishing the festival but from those who visit the site throughout the year and from other fishery owners themselves.
It has been a harder festival than normal and this is also partly due to near arctic weather conditions which hasn’t been the best for fishing but as we have said it is the same for everyone and there is still £3000 up for grabs and a whole host of other prizes so lets see how the final day panned out.
'A' Section Bolingey
Today on Bolingey we saw the top weight of the week with Jamie Wilde on peg 23 taking the lake win with 136lb, Jamie caught at 5 meters on mean and had a few fish late on down the edge. Second on the lake was John Cowey, John was on peg 46 and caught on the pole at 14.5 meters with meat and pellet for a weight of 100lb.
Colin Mercer was on peg 27 and took third on the lake with 91lb 9oz, Colin caught on the 17 meter pole with meat. The next best weight on the lake was 82lb 2oz and this came from Simon Skelton on peg 22, Simon caught on the 13-meter pole with meat.

'D' Section Trewaters
The weights were slightly down on Trewaters today and this is mainly due to with all the cold water running through the lake, this is a problem that we wont be able to solve until the festivals are over so we just have to keep our fingers crossed that we do not have much more rain over the next week.
Today’s lake winner on peg 35 was Derek Willan, Derek caught on the feeder with chopped worm and caster for a weight of 22lb 4oz. Dave Harpin was second on peg 48 with 20lb 8oz. Michael Sanders had a weight of 14lb 6oz that put him third, Michael was on peg 21 and caught on the pole with maggot. So Steve is our festival winner with a fantastic 5 section wins, we would like to offer congratulations to all of our winners and festival entrants, this week has been fairly tough for all of us but there has also been a lot of enjoyment.
We would like to offer a massive thank you to Maver for their continued support and their generous prizes that they provided for the top twenty winners and thanks to Steve Mayo from Maver who was here to present the prizes. This week has had ups and downs for all of our anglers but for Mr Ringer it was a week full of highs as he adds another festival win to his numerous White Acres accolades.
Thank you once again to all of the anglers that took park and thank you to all that have been following our daily reports.
