  Preston Festival 2007

Welcome to the White Acres Preston Innovations Festival 2007. This is our final festival of the autumn and the all-important festival that leads to the one day Parkdean Masters £25,000 final. It is another sell out festival with 180 anglers heading off to the banks of Pollawyn, Bolingey, Porth, Gwinear & Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal for the 5 matches that make up the festival.

Preston Innovations always pledge immense support to out festivals and they have arranged some amazing prize for the winners and even a few surprises a long the way.I shall endeavour to keep you up to date with all the information and this week we will be monitoring the top 24 to find out who will secure themselves in the big money final.

Day One
Pollawyn is one of the lakes being used for the second week running and we saw mixed results across the lake last week. There has been less pressure on the lake over the weekend but the weather has also changed once again and has a very strange feel to it. The lake today was won by Mick Dagnall on peg 18, Mick caught 5 fish early on the feeder but have the rest of his catch on the pole with pellet and meat finishing with 120lbs.

Skip McCabe finished up second with 100lb 9oz, Skip was on peg 26 and caught with pellet on the waggler and pole. Third on the lake was Sean Huggins, Sean was on peg 27 and caught on the meat feeder to have a weight of 91lb 11oz. Rob Wootton had the next best weight with 84lb 3oz, Rob was on peg 32 and caught on the meat feeder.

'A' SECTION POLLAWYN
Pollawyn is one of the lakes that most shows the effects of quick changes in weather conditions and this was reflected in today’s weights. The lake was won today by Stewart Lister on peg 23, Stuart weighed in with 87lb 11oz caught on the pole at 18 meters to the island shallow on pellet. Mark Brown was second on the lake with 61lb 7oz; Mark was on peg 28 and caught on the lead with pellet and also on the pole at 12 meters with pellet. Third with 60lb 14oz was John Howell on peg 30, John caught on the pellet waggler. Gary Hamilton on peg 25 had the next best weight on the lake with56lb 12oz, Gary caught on the bomb with pellet.

'B' SECTION Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal
A change around for this section this week which we do every festival so that Trelawney gets a rest. Canal is in this section this year and is a new lake to many of our festival anglers and it is a first for us using it on one of these festivals so we shall see how it goes throughout the week.

The lake winner today was Andy Neal on Twin Oaks peg 10, Andy caught on the ground bait feeder across and on the pole short and down the edge for a weight of 89lb 4oz. Steve Bass on Twin Oaks peg 2 was second with 77lb 2oz, Steve fished pellets down the edge and at 13 meters.

Second on the lake went to Phil Ringer with 79lb, Phil caught shallow 14.5 meters and at 5 meters on corn from peg 17. John Bradshaw was on peg 14 and caught on pellet to take third with 69lb 15oz. Malcolm Johnson the winner had a tremendous weight on peg 75, Malcolm caught on the feeder to take the win with 40lb 4oz. Andy Gregory had the next best weight on the lake with 17lb 7oz, Andy was on peg 21.

So we are into day two of the festival, down here in Cornwall we have had some heavy rain throughout the night and the morning was not much better. Thankfully the weather cleared and was another mild day, read on to find out about the match action and who is possible one step closer to the final.

A Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal
It was a great days fishing and one of the fairest sections as the lake money wins seem they can come from any section, 5 weights over a ton today and some good back up figures. Kieron Rich on Twin Oaks 8 won the match today with 154lb 15oz, Kieron fished meat on the deck at 6 meters to take the win. Second went to Dave Lewis next door on Twin Oaks 10, Dave fished at 5 meters with meat for a weight of 154lb 3oz. Danny Grimsey weighted in with 139lb 8oz to take third, Danny was on Twin Oaks 18 and caught on meat down the edge at 5 section. Over on Acorn Steve Sanders on peg 13 had the next west weight with 108lb 11oz, Steve fished pellet over meat down the edge. The best weight on the high numbers of Twin Oaks came from Rob Wootton on peg 25 with 71lb 15oz; Paul Filmore had the best weight on Canal with 58lb he was on peg 10.

Tommy Hiller took the lake win today with 24lb 4oz; Tommy was on peg 17 and caught on the waggler with castors. Second on the lake went to Kevin Dalton on peg 71, Kevin fished the feeder with corn for a weight of 23lb 2oz. E Section Pollawyn
It is hard going for the angler that draw the arms on Pollawyn at the moment and you only really need 50lb to win the section, the main only bonus is that that weight can come from a number of pegs so although you know you are not in with a chance of a lake win you still have to but in a strong performance to pick up vital points. The lake was won today by Terry Harrison on peg 26; Terry fished the straight lead and waggler with pellet for a weight of 119lb 14oz. Pemb Wrighting on peg 27 was second with 110lb 12oz, Pemb fished the bomb and waggler with pellet. Third on the lake with 105lb 6oz was Adam Rooney on peg 25, Adam fished on the pole with meat. Andy May on peg 21 had the next best weight; Andy fished meat and hemp at 5 meters giving him a weight of 102lb 4oz. A special mention for section winner Alan Rutherford who today was celebrating his 21st birthday, Alan did an impressive forward somersault into the lake before he was pushed by the other anglers, so congratulations on your section win and once again we wish you a very happy Birthday.

Section Winners
Terry Harrison 9 points 119lb 14oz
Andy May 9 points 102lb 2oz
Tim Nash 9 points 44lb 2oz
Alan Rutherford 9 points 43lb 10oz

So that was day two of the festival, there is a good atmosphere on the festival and although there are a few moans and groans to be heard from the usual suspects the majority of the pack seem to be getting their heads down and forward thinking (with their fingers crossed) to the final.

So that is how the top 24 looks at the end of the third day, there are still two days left and a result to be dropped so we could see some twists and turns yet! Steve Ringer has established his place at the top of the results for the umpteenth time – can he last the festival? Stay tuned tomorrow as we are ever closer to the final and to knowing who the lucky 24 are.

Day Four
So we have reached the penultimate day of the festival and we have had an exciting week so far, the points have been tight at the top all week and we shall see how today’s events have affected the leader board.

It was a glorious day and those who drew with no shade on their peg could have easily been fishing in another country. With the way things have been going on the festival and the fishing on certain lakes being so up and down no one can really predict what their days fishing will entail. Read on to find out how their day has gone on and who is set for a festival win.

A few moans and groans we overheard about Gwinear today but we assume they were having a bad day because there were still some respectable weights, agreed the lake is one of the peggier that we use in the festival and although some sections cannot really compete for overall daily money, the still have the vital points up for grabs and for some these are more important as it is one step closer to the final. So that was day four and with one day left in the festival Steve Ringer seems to have carved out a perfect path to victory for himself but by looking at the top 24 Richie Hull is snapping at his heals and if things don’t go right for Steve tomorrow the win could slip through his fingers.

Lets look at the current top 24 to see who’s where and if they should keep their diary free for Saturday.

So that is the top 24 as it stands, the only way for Steve not to win the festival is for him to pick up less that 8 points today and for Richie to win his section. I think we can say that from 6th place upwards have 99% booked their place in the final but what about the others, how will the final match of the festival affect the above positions?

Stay tuned for the results and we shall be revealing the 2007 Preston Innovations Champion and the 24 Parkdean Masters 2007 contenders first thing Saturday morning.
