We take a look at three of White Acres popular match fishing lakes.

Python Pool - White Acres

Python Pool
The 37 peg Python is a canalised lake with most swims within long pole reach of the central island although there is a wider stretch on one bank. At 6 metres there is around6-8 ft of water in most of the swims while both near bank and island margins are much shallower.

The dominant species are tench, with crucians, roach, skimmers and perch plus just a few small carp. The tench run to around 4lb with samples from under 1lb upwards, and there are plenty of 6oz – 1lb roach too. There are a number of big perch to over 4lb present too. If you love tench or like to bag up without carp crunching then this is the lake for you.
In the summer the fish, of all species, even the tench, can be caught right up in the water fishing just a couple of feet deep. The margins are also very productive to baits presented just beyond the weed fringe.

Main Methods
Pole in the margins and deep water, feeder and waggler across in the wides.

Proven baits
Casters and chopped worm, corn and meat

Tactical tips
Corn and small cubes of meat pick out the better tench, fishing shallow on the pole can be very productive.

Pollawyn Match Lake

Pollawyn Match Lake
Pollawyn is our best known match and pleasure pool.
This lake has 55 pegs laid out in three arms and a long bank known as the High Bank. There are four islands and it all adds up to a feature packed water where several stunning hauls of fish are often caught. Depths vary with the deepest water along the High Bank dropping down to 12, but even along the arms there is a good depth down the channel to 8 feet.
The carp run to 15lb but average 5lb, there is a good head of bream to a slab sized 8lb, tench topping 5lb, perch to 2lb, and crucians to 3lb plus a big head of roach, hybrids and skimmers too.

Main methods
Pole at the bottom of the ledge, groundbait feesde tight to the islands, pole or waggler shallow.

Proven baits
Meat and corn, chopped worm, castors

Tactical tips
Occasionally try double meat or corn for better fish, if you miss a lot of bites try fishing shallow – probably fish up in the water.

Eery Lake

Eery Lake
Right at the foot of the valley, the intimate and secluded 16 swim Eery offers depths ranging from 3ft to 10 ft deep with a central island the main feature. Ghost and mirror carp in the 6-12lb size bracket dominate patrolling close to the banks and the islands and make for several 100lb plus hauls every year. It should be noted that pegs 1-6 are suitable for disabled access

Main methods
Waggler feeder to the island or shallow bar, pole or waggler in the margins, floating baits.

Proven baits
Dog biscuits, corn or meat

Tactical tips
A hot spot is to fish on the shallow bar beyond the the pointy of the island at the bottom of the lake using on feeder or waggler tackle, don’t ignore margins either.
