THE race for Britain’s biggest pairs competition – the Maver/Angling Times Pairs Challenge 2010 – is on!
Angling Times and tackle giants Maver are putting their full weight behind the event, the sixth in its short but illustrious history which will again boast a prize fund in excess of £15,000 with prizes amounting to £10,000 alone for the winning pair.
The Maver Pairs will have a limited entry of 50 pairs per qualifier, with all 25 eliminators being held on some of the country’s top commercial fisheries, and promises a huge final match with massive prizes and massive catches. The qualifiers start on Saturday April 24 and take in a variety of waters, with most matches being fished on Saturdays.
For Northern anglers we’ve secured qualifiers on Heronbrook Fisheries, Browning Cudmore, Woodland Lakes, Hallcroft Fishery, Partridge Lakes, Blundells Fishery and Lindholme Lakes.
In the Midlands, qualifiers will take place on Barston Lakes, Makin’s, Woodland View, Barford Lakes, Maver Larford Lakes, Decoy Lakes and Tunnel Barn Farm, while Southern qualifiers will be staged on Gold Valley, Hartleylands Farm, White Acres, Stafford Moor, Viaduct Fishery and Monk Lakes.
From each of these qualifiers the top two pairs will win through to the grand final which will take place on Saturday August 14 at Maver Larford Lakes. Larford has grown an enviable reputation as one of the UK’s top fisheries with three lakes packed with silverfish and F1 hybrids, plus many huge tench, bream and carp well into double figures.

How many qualifiers can I enter?
Pairs can enter as many of the 25 qualifiers as they wish, but they will have to pay to enter each separate match.
How many pairs qualify from each match?
There will be two pairs from each match qualifying for the final. These will be the top two pairs from that qualifier, decided on section points and in the event of a tie, section countback then overall weight.
What about the final?
Held at Maver Larford Lakes on Saturday August 14, the Specimen, Arena and Match Lakes at the Stourport complex will be used, with pairs having one man on the Match or Arena Lake and the other on the Specimen Lake. There will be 50 anglers on each lake, fishing in sections.
Overall section points will be used to decide the winners with the lowest score winning and this lucky pair will receive the £5,000 top prize, trophies plus state of the art Maver Tackle, with cash, tackle and trophies for the second and third pairs and cash for the fourth pair. There will also be section money paid out 100% from the pools on the day as well as hefty amounts for the top three anglers overall on each lake.
Additionally, for all finalists there will be the option to stay on to fish a special match on the following day at Larford. Maver are putting up cash plus tackle in their Maver British Pole Pairs Championships. Running on exactly the same lines as the Saturday final, this match will be pole only and is optional – you don’t have to fish if you don’t want to!
