Timmy tops the Festival
News Posted 10 October 2007
This years Maver festival has been won by West Country angler Timmy Rowe. The festival came down to a nail biting final with the result going to the wire on the final day. Tim has a result of 4 section wins, the only angler in contention to this was Karl Webster who has three wins and 3 points but had drawn a flyer on the final day. All Tim had to do was better 3 points as Karl had a better weight. Tim was on Pollawyn on the final day and had not drawn a good peg, as we were doing the weigh in on Pollawyn and just as we reached Tim's peg the news came in that Karl has won his section! Timmy weighed in and had only managed better the weight of one other angler so far, after Tim there was two anglers left in his section to weigh in and to win he had to have a better weight than them, it was an agonising and intense 5 minutes waiting for the final weights but lady luck must have been shining for Tim as the weights recorded were less that his giving him 4 points - just enough to scrape the win! Although Tim was re-assured on the banks that he had clinched the win I don't think the reality clicked in until his name was read out on stage that evening and the club erupted with cheers and congratulations when he took his place on the stage with a big cheque and trophy in had and an even bigger smile on his face. So well done to our 2007 Maver Festival Winner Timmy Rowe and congratulations once again from all the fisheries team here at White Acres.
