GRANT-ALBUTT collects his 3K - WHITE ACRES FIRST WINNER FOR 2001
Grant - shows off the winners cheque and trophy

CATS CREAM FOR GRANT
IT was another big payday for superstar angler Grant Albutt as he showed his class to win the 178-angler White Acres ABU Spring Festival with a maximum points score of 36 points. Grant dropped his opening days section third from Porth then went on to record four straight section wins and that was enough for the £3000 winners cheque.
Marston Green based Grant won last Octobers Skol festival but agonisingly missed out on the £25,000 winners prize in the Skol final but showed he was back at his best in the ABU event.
Going into the last day Grant needed a final match section win at Gwinear to guarantee the victory and week long festival leader Harry Billing to miss out on a final day section win.
Daiwa Dorking grouped Grant not only won the section at Gwinear 28 but the lake with 119-13-0 of caty food caught carp but for Harry (Keenets Northwest) he could only count the cost as he missed out on a section win by one small carp on Trelawney.
On the second day Bolingey peg 10 was the scene of Grant's first section win where he pole fished cat food a t 11 and 13 metres tempting 52-8-0 of carp to 6 lb.
Moving onto Pollawyn pools peg 36 another section win came to long pole at 15 metres and luncheon meat producing 57-0-0 of carp and skimmers.

First fishinf match winner of the year
Grant - on his way to a final day lake and festival win at Gwinear
Grant a 36-year-old data technician was struggling at Trelawney 12 on day four with just one fish in the bag and two hours remaining.
'I tried the waggler with a piece of corn on the hook and had ten carp in ten casts, but they went again as soon as I started feeding' said Grant whose 19-4-0 was enough to come back and win the section!

When Albutt drew out Gwinear 28 he was set for serious crack at the title and he made no mistakes despite some tough competition on the adjacent pegs. ABU donated keepnets and landing net prizes among the top 12 individuals and there were cash prizes for the top ten.

Season starts with a record catch

Manchester engineer Harry Billing was the pick of a strong Keenets Northwest contingent and had started the week brilliantly with three straight section wins then two section seconds.
'I am pleased to have come second but I should really have won but Grant is a brilliant angler and deserves the win' said 46-year-old Harry who finished with 35 points and the £1500 runners up cheque beating Kieron Rich, Mark Harper and Alan Barker with a better discounted fifth section score.
Kieron (Tri Cast) clinched the third place £1000 prize with Mark Harper (Thatchers 2000) receiving £700 in fourth.

The top 50 all qualify for Octobers £25,000 Skol Masters.

Essex County Van Den Eynde angler Paul Yates smashed the Gwinear match record with a 232-3-0 carp haul during the second day of the White Acres ABU backed spring festival from peg 20.
Paul presented long pole and meat 5 m out in front of the empty peg 21 to his left for around 40-50 mirrors and seven commons averaging 5-6 lb gearing up with 0.18 mm line, a Maver eagle size 12 hook and 16 elastic.
Best fish of the week was the 16-1-0 ghost carp to Arthur Turner while the mystery weight winner was the 77-8-0 of Chris Chadwick.
