Well
there is not a lot we can say except thank you and congratulations!!
What a fantastic weekend, I hope everybody enjoyed it – we
certainly did. We would especially like to thank Triana & Coca
Cola for their generous sponsorship, parents, family & supporters
of the entrants and most of all the junior competitors themselves;
it was very refreshing to see so many young keen anglers.

White Acres couldn’t have asked for a better
start to the Coca Cola-Triana Junior Festival, fantastic weather
with sun beating down on the competitors who were eagerly waiting
for the draw, 17 degrees – not bad for a weekend in March.
The juniors, who were aged between 7 and 15, donned Coke hats and t-shirts
for their photo shoot and then on to the most important thing – the draw!
The festival was run on two sections (A & B) with those sections then bring
split into two smaller sections. Jennys Lake pegs 1 – 24 and twelve pegs
on Trelawney was where the action was to take place.
Day one saw 23 out of 24 anglers weighing in over 5lbs, with over half of the
24 getting up into double figure weight.
Stephen Gledhill weighed in with a very impressive 50lb 9oz (the biggest overall
weight of the two day festival), Stephen – a modest young angler, not
having a pole decided to fish the maggot feeder at short range to show his
opponents that a pole wasn’t the only way to haul large bags of fish.
Stevens attack involved 2 – 3 maggots on the hook with a medium Drennan
carp maggot feeder filled with red & white maggot.
Samantha Perkins, our only female entrant, finished second overall on the day
with a section win on Trelawney with 33lb 14oz from peg 23. Four carp in the
first hour gave Sam the lead and she then followed with a run of skimmers,
roach & perch for the rest of the day.
Matthew Gibbs won the opposite bank on Trelawney with 11lb 8oz of roach and
skimmers on the 7-meter pole with caster.
Duane Shuttleworth also picked up a 6 point section win on Jennys with an impressive
26lb 7oz from peg 6 catching the majority of his fish on the feeder.
Overall a great start to the festival.
Day TWO
A Section
Stephen Gledhill Peg 22 Trelawney 41lb 2oz
6 Points
Jake Dye Peg 15 Trelawney 25lb 10oz 6 Points
B Section
Tony Curd Peg 14 Jennys 42lb 11oz 6 Points
Jake Wilerson-Fisher Peg 8 Jennys 40lb 7oz 6 Points
The start of day two saw mother nature handing
us a mixed bag of weather, the sun was high in the sky but overnight
saw an increase in wind strength, this was certainly felt by 7
year old George Morrison our youngest competitor who found it a
struggle to stay on his box, George still managed to weigh in a
respectable 14lb 11oz.
Up to 12 competitors were in the running for the top prizes, this saw increased
tensions for Sundays draw – and that was just amongst the parents! Stephen
Gledhill led the pack with another impressive section win of 41lb 2oz from
peg 22 Trelawney. Once again Stephen fished maggot feeder to the island to
net his winning catch, this secured first place overall in the festival with
a maximum 12 points and 91lb 11oz over the two days, Stephen walked away with
a 14.5m Giada Triana Pole, a Pyramid seat box and the trophy for first place.
Jake Dye, followed up his 3rd in the section from day one with a section win
on day two, picking up a maximum 6 points from peg 15 on Trelawney weighing
in 25lb 10oz, Jake whose net was made up with 5 carp, one of which was 8lb,
and also small skimmers & roach, these were all caught on short pole and
down the margins with corn & caster, this impressive second days haul left
him runner up in the overall results with 10 points and a total weight of 57lb
14oz. Jake took home a 14.5m Triana Potenza pole and a trophy for second place.
Samantha Perkins followed up her day one section win with a 4th in section
on day two. Sam started on the pole but struggled with the strong wind, which
took its toll by snapping one of her sections clean in half. Sam then switched
to a small ground-bait feeder at 8 meters to catch a mixed bag of roach, skimmers
and tench for a weight of 21lb 10oz. Sam finished 3rd overall with 9 points
and a total weight of 55lb 8oz winning a set of Triana luggage, pyramid seat-box
and a trophy for 3rd. Miles Day took 4th place overall in the competition,
picking up 9 points over the two-day festival. Day one Miles fished pole and
feeder bagging mainly tench and skimmers to give him a weight of 22lb from
peg 5 on Jennys. On day two Miles came home 3rd in section from peg 25 on Trelawney
catching carp and skimmers on the feeder for 28lb 14oz his overall weight for
the two days totaling 50lb 14oz. Miles walked away with a full set of Triana
luggage for his spoils.
Duane Shuttleworth, section winner on day one, narrowly kept his place in the
top 5 by managing 4th in the section, with 4 anglers in the top ten on 9 points
Duane’s weight was 8lb ahead bagging him 5th place overall with a weight
of 42lb winning himself a full set of Triana luggage.
Matthew Gibbs came in 6th with 9 points and 34lb only been beaten by Duane
on weight in the overall standings, with Jake Marshall close behind in 7th
with 8 points weighing 51lb 12oz.
Also with his first section win with 40lb 7oz from peg 8 on Jennys was Jake
Wilkerson-fisher. Jake fished a small groundbait feeder with double maggot
on the hook for a bag made up of F1’s, skimmers & tench, another
great weight considering the strong wind up on Jennys. Jake finished in 8th
with 8 points and 46lb 4oz over the two days, with Dominic Ellaway snapping
at Jake’s heels in 9th with 8 points also, but with a lesser weight of
38lb 12oz.
Another youngster, 9 year old Evesham based Bradley Proctor fished steadily
on day one from peg 25 Trelawney netting 25lb 4oz. Day two saw Bradley draw
peg 2 on Jennys, Bradley weighed in a substantial 22lb of mainly roach and
skimmers to give him a total of 8 points, and 10th place overall in the festival,
not bad for a 9 year old!
