White Acres Dynamite Baits Festival 2007

Welcome to our second major festival of the year the Dynamite Baits Festival. It had been two weeks since the previous festival and now we have another festival sell out with 180 anglers raring to go. The lakes being used for this festival are Pollawyn, Bolingey, Gwinear, Porth and Twin Oaks/Acorn/Nelsons.

Pellet is allowed on this festival and in pervious years we have seen some amazing weights, there have been some big changes in weather conditions recently as while the rest of the UK basked in the sunshine over the weekend; down her in was colder, overcast and fairly windy, the previous week had been glorious so we are hoping these changes do not reflect in the fishing but the forecast seems fairly good and we have high hopes for another successful festival.

Dynamite Baits have pledged their support for this festival spot for a number of years now and we would like to thank them for that and hope that all anglers fishing this week enjoy the festival.

Day One
With their sections drawn prior to their arrival the anglers all know where they are heading for on day one, the first draw takes slightly longer as we run over the details of the festivals reminding anglers or certain rules and procedures, one of our most important rules this year is the drying of keepnets before the match and the fact they cannot go into the lake until 15 minutes before the start, everyone had been issued with a set of bait tubs and they know there bait limits so we hope there is no one foolish enough to take more that they need with them! With the formal bits over the draw begins and as we wish everyone a great festival and we are officially off, those first few excited anglers reach for the bag hoping to draw the flyers!

'A' Section Pollawyn
High hopes were had for Pollawyn toady with recent top match and festival weights, the weather change over the weekend didn’t really work help those on there today and they felt the lake fished harder than in previous festivals, most anglers started off well but as the day got brighter the fish did not feed in the bright sun and then it was a sprint finish at the end of the match as the fish began to readily feed again.

Andy Dare took the lake victory today with an impressive day one catch weighing137lb 14oz; Andy was on peg 19 and caught both on the pole and waggler with Pellet shallow. Second on the lake went to Phil Ringer on the high bank peg 26 who fished the feeder with meat giving him a weight of 126lb 4oz. Neil McKinnon on peg 32 took third with 95lb, Neil caught 2 carp on the pole, 2 on the pellet waggler and the rest of his fish on the bomb with pellet. On peg 12 Andy Dargue had the next best weight with 77lb 2oz, Andy fished pellet on the bomb and waggler to win his section.

Section Winners
Andy Dare 9 points 137lb 14oz
Neil Mckinnon 9 points 95lb
Andy Dargue 9 points 77lb 2oz
Gary Skeritt 9 points 55lb 4oz

'B' Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Nelsons
This is the first time these lakes have been used this year on the festivals so predicting how they would fish is extremely hard as they are all strong venues and always produce some top weights, there were ten 80lb plus weights off the section with the winning weight of 134lb 1oz coming from Mark Wells on Twin oaks peg 14, Mark fished 8mil banded pellet down the edge and the crumb feeder with hair rigged meat to take the win. Geoff Ringer on Nelsons peg 11 took second, Geoff caught shallow on the pellet waggler to finish with a weight of 118lb 9oz. Third went to Steve Cooke with 114lb 6oz, Steve was on Acorn peg 4 and caught on the short pole with meat and also on the feeder with meat. The next best weight from across the four lakes came from Alan Jones on Twin Oaks peg 12 with 111lb 8oz, Alan caught on the pole with pellet.

Section Winners
Mark Wells 9 points 134lb 1oz
Geoff Ringer 9 points 118lb 9oz
Steve Cooke 9 points 114lb 6oz
Steve Ringer 9 points 111lb 4oz

'C' Section Gwinear
As Gwinear is a fairly strong pellet venue the allowing of this bait to be used in this festival should in theory increase the weights, this venue has suffered in the past but judging by the performance in our last festival it is still capable of some top weights. Jason Thomas on peg 20 was the lake winner today with 11llb 9oz, Jason caught on the pole with pellet shallow to take the victory. Next door on peg 19, Andy Geldart weighed in 105lb 8oz to take second, Andy caught on the pole with pellet at 5 & 14 meters. Third went to Wayne Nolan on peg 31, Wayne caught on pellet close in, giving him a weight of 99lb 12oz. John Battersby on peg 30 had the next best weight of the day with 62lb 12oz, John caught on banded pellet.

Section Winners
Jason Thomas 9 points 111lb 9oz
Wayne Nolan 9 points 99lb 12oz
Simon Fry 9 points 53lb 7oz
Andy Lloyd 9 points 31lb 12oz

'D' Section Porth
Porth was another lake that fished fairly hard today, with some low weights being recorded, this is a fairly specialised venue compared to the bagging lakes on the White Acres complex this reservoir is crammed with silverfish and if you are lucky enough to draw amongst a shoal of bream or skimmers you are on to a winner. Rob Wootton on peg 77 took the lake win with 27lb 9oz, Rob caught on the pole with worm, second went to Gary Hamilton with 22lb 4oz caught from peg 79, Gary fished on the pole with chopped worm over groundbait. Third went to Will Raison, Will also fished worm over groundbait to weigh in with 20lb 8oz from peg 72. On peg 40 Tony Baker had the next best weight with 19lb 8oz, Tony fished chopped worm and castor on the pole.

Section Winners
Rob Wootton 9 points 27lb 9oz
Tony Baker 9 points 19lb 8oz
Joe Brennan 9 points 8lb 10oz
Ken Russell 9 points 8lb

'E' Section Bolingey
E section started of their week with a bang today on Bolingey as between the 36 anglers over 3000lbs of fish including 15 ton plus weights. The fishing here seems to get better and better with not even Mike the lake owner realising how much was stocked in the lake and how much the fish had grown. The lake today was won by Kerry Kirkwood on peg 45 with 160lb 15oz, Kerry fished shallow at 15 meters with pellet. John Chapman was second with 138lb 15oz, John was on peg 44 and caught on pellet shallow and also had 9 fish down the side on corn. Third went to Greg Roberts on peg 29, Greg fished pellet shallow and on meat down the edge giving him a final weight of 137lb 5oz. On peg 38 Mark Pleavin had the next best weight of 136lb 6oz, mark fished down the edge with meat.

Section Winners
Kerry Kirkwood 9 points 160lb 15oz
John Chapman 9 points 138lb 15oz
Dan Ashington 9 points 134lb 14oz
Chris Whitehead 9 points 129lb 2oz

So that was day one and it was a cracking start to the festival, those in the top twenty obviously bagged their important section points and can only hope to carry on onwards and upwards over the remaining four days.

Those anglers on maximum points will be hoping for another top draw tomorrow and those that had not faired as well are keeping their fingers crossed for a better draw tomorrow, will we see any of the above names in the top spots again tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more festival action tomorrow, Cheers Kirsty

Day Two
Well day one got off to a cracking start so everyone was eager to get on with the draw and go to their pegs, those that won there section yesterday were looking for another top draw and those that had not faired as well were hoping for a better draw. It was another clear day but if you were in the shade it was still fairly cold. The feeding patterns of the fish are not “black & white” on any of the lakes at the moment as they are moving around a fair bit and the big catches are coming from different areas each day.

'A' Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Nelsons
The lakes fished well again today with the top weights tight across all three, It is proving to be a fir section as none of the lakes are dominating the section and different pegs are producing winning weights each day. Danny Grimsey on Twin Oaks peg 16 took the win today with 156lb 7oz, Danny caught on the meat feeder, pellet waggler and on meat down the edge to take the win. Phil Ringer was second with 117lb 15oz; Phil was on Nelsons peg 1 and caught ½ on the feeder with meat and ½ on meat down the edge. Third today came from Acorn peg 16 where Harry Billing weighed in with 112lb 12oz, Harry caught long and short on the pole both with meat. Andy Dargue had the next best weight across the section with 109lb 2oz, Andy caught shallow with pellet from Nelsons peg 11.

Section Winners
Danny Grimsey 9 points 156lb 7oz
Phil Ringer 9 points 117lb 15oz
Harry Billing 9 points 112lb 12oz
Wayne Mellings 9 points 82lb 4oz

Gaz Sadler on peg 20 took the lake win today with 91lb 7oz, Gaz caught on pellet shallow. Second on the lake went to Kieron Rich on peg 30, Kieron caught mainly on chopped worm & caster down the edge and also had a few across on the pole with meat for a weight of 73lb 15oz. Jez Goldthorpe was third with 72lb 4oz, Jez fished shallow on the pole with meat from peg 27. On peg 31 Steve Ringer had the next best weight of the lake with 64lb 2oz, Steve caught down the edge with worm over caster.

The lake winner today was Gary Webber on peg 39, Gary had a cracking winning weight of 48lb 2oz caught on the pole with caster. Andy May weighed in with 25lb 6oz to take second on the lake, Andy was on peg 88 and caught at 6 meters with worms and casters. Third came from peg 38 where Mark Harris weighed in with 22lb 19oz, Mark caught a nice net of skimmers on the pole with worms but caught no bream! There were good weights again on Pollawyn today but the lake is still fishing strangely as the fish are not really in the expected places and are also moving round a fair bit at the moment. The lake was won today from peg 45 where Giles Cochrane fished the long pole across to the island on pellet to take the win with 143lb, which is a great weight from that peg. Third went to Kevin Williams on peg 15 with 109lb 5oz, Kev caught 15 carp and about 30lbs of nice skimmers on the straight lead with meat and down the edge on Meat. So there are our leader at the moment, the results are tight with only two anglers on maximum points, there are some staggering backup weights that are also on fairly high points so it looks as if we are going to have another close festival. Those in the top twenty need to do well again tomorrow to hold on to the leader board, can Rob or Andy make it a clean sweep.

Join us tomorrow for more festival action and results, Cheers Kirsty

Day Three
Day three was another gloriously sunny day (there were quite a few rosy cheeked anglers in the pub last night and it wasn’t to do with beer), Day three has always been a bit of a make or break point of the festival where those not fairing as well need to up their game and those that are in the top spots need to stake a proper claim on their positions by bagging high section points. The lakes have all been fishing fairly evenly across the board and sections and points are being won and lost by ounces.

'A' Section Gwinear
Gwinear has been on fine form this week providing some of the best weights we have seen from the lake in a while, the sections have been fishing fairly evenly and is generally holding up to the pressure of the festival. Dave Rudman took the lake win today with 173lb 7oz, Dave was on peg 31 and caught at 4 meters down the edge with worm on the hook and feeding casters.

Second went to Gary Skeritt on peg 20, Gary fished meat shallow and worm & caster down the edge for a weight of 103lb. Ian Brown took third, Ian fished pellet shallow and meat at 5 meters giving him a weight of 82lb 12oz from peg 19. On peg 28 Neil Mckinnon had the next best weight with 84lb 8oz, Neil fished down the side towards the bridge with worm and also had 5 shallow.

Section Winners
Dave Rudman 9 points 173lb 7oz
Gary Skeritt 9 points 103lb
Steve Prowse 9 points 71lb 7oz
Wayne Mellings 9 points 56lb 4oz

'B' Section Porth
Porth is still fishing harder than expected with one section in the shadows making it cold and the water gin clear but the other sections are still producing consistent but lower weights. Ian Chadwick took the lake win today with 35lb 4oz; Ian was on peg 38 and caught on worms at 14.5 meters. Second with 22lb 5oz went to Steve Sanders on peg 87, Steve fished the pole with worm over groundbait. On peg 73 Steve Cooke took third position, Steve caught on the feeder with worm for a weight of 22lb 4oz. Kieron Rich on peg 71 had the next best weight with 20lb 2oz, Kieron fished the pole with worms & casters with a bit of groundbait.

Section Winners
Ian Chadwick 9 points 35lb 4oz
Steve Ringer 9 points 22lb 5oz
Steve Cooke 9 points 22lb 4oz
Paul Cannon 9 points 7lb 12oz

'C' Section Bolingey
The weights coming from Bolingey are still amazing with another 9 ton plus weights being recorded today. We have had to take some spare keepnets down to the lake for those anglers that are sacking up and from the October festivals we shall be introducing a three net rule. On peg 27 Alex Murray took the lake win with 191lb 7oz, Alex didn’t bother going long on the pole as he was catching big fish down the edge on both sides with meat. Second went to Simon Fry on peg 12 with 144lb, Simon caught all his fish on the pellet waggler. Andy Geldart took third with 128lb 8oz; Andy fished at 14 meters shallow with pellet from peg 29. On peg 11 Scott Wilding had the next best weight with 118lb 9oz, Scott caught on the waggler across with pellet and on the pole at 5 meters with meat.

Section Winners
Alex Murray 9 points 191lb 7oz
Simon Fry 9 points 144lb
Andy Geldart 9 points 128lb 8oz
Wayne Rooke 9 points 95lb 15oz

'D' Section Pollawyn
Again it was another great days fishing on Pollawyn with pegs 19 & 20 once again dominating the big weights. The sections on the arms are all producing fair weights and it is becoming tighter each day for section points. The lake was won today by Ian Hudson on peg 19, Ian fished pellet on the waggler and on the straight lead to take the win with 116lb 2oz. Next door on peg 20 Dave Pimlott was narrowly beaten into second with 115lb 6oz, Dave fished meat on the bomb. Pemb Wrighting took third with 102lb 7oz; Pemb fished meat on the pole from peg 29. On peg 45 Paul Burton has the next best weight with 98lb 4oz, Paul fished pellet on the pole across to the island.

Will Raison 9 points 91lb 11oz
George Crawford 9 points 89lb 14oz

'E' Section Twin Oaks/Nelsons/Acorn
Twin Oaks dominated the section today providing us with the top three weights but Acorn & Nelsons still saw some top weights and have fished great so far this week. The Lake winner today was Kerry Kirkwood on Twin Oaks peg 10, Kerry caught some his fish on the feeder with meat and the rest of his fish down the edge on corn for a weight of 132lb 6oz. Second on the lake went to our very own angling superstar Adam Wakelin with 108lb 12oz, Adz was on Twin Oaks peg 6 and caught on the waggler with pellet, pellet shallow on the pole and also down the edge on meat. Tom Burnell on peg 16 Twin Oaks was third with a weight of 104lb 2oz, Tom caught on the waggler and down the edge. The next best weight came from Clive Wynn on Acorn peg 14; Clive fished meat down the side for a weight of 101lb.

It is turning out to be a fairly odd festival as points and positions go as we have no one on maximum points and there have been so many shake ups in the top twenty that no one can predict what will happen now. Can Gary, Simon or Andy keep hold of their slight advantage, please join us tomorrow for an update. Cheers, Kirsty

Day Four
Day four was another scorcher and saw some top match fishing action. The weather has been kind to us all week (although some might not agree with this being as they are so burnt!) and as the week has gone on we can see that the fish are showing signs of beginning to spawn. It has been a very exciting festival and even at the end of play today there are no signs of a clear-cut winner, read on for more information on how the fishing went today.

'A' Section Porth
Porth has fished harder all week and anglers have not managed to find the much sought after shoals of bream and skimmers. Harry Billing on peg 89 took the lake win today with 23lb 8oz, Harry caught at 9 meters over ground bait and with corn over maggots & casters. Second went to Phil Ringer with 18lb 2oz, Phil was on peg 39 and caught on the feeder with “Ringers” groundbait and maggots. On peg 33 Nigel Smith was ounced into third place with 18lb 1oz, Nigel fished the 13-meter pole with worms and caster. Neil Mckinnon on peg 34 had the next best weight on the lake with 16lb 10oz, Neil caught all day on the pole with worms.

Section Winners
Harry Billing 9 points 23lb 8oz
Phil Raison 9 points 18lb 2oz
Chris Allen 9 points 11lb 8oz
Colin Mercer 9 points 8lb 4oz

'B' Section Bolingey
There is not a lot really a lot we can say about Bolingey except it is fishing it’s proverbial off, yesterday again over 3700lbs of fish were weigh in (anyone reading this who is fishing next week Ben has asked if you could not catch as much as his back is hurting!!) The fishing has been tremendous with half of the anglers in the section weighing at least 120lb today. The win today went to Kieron Rich on peg 22 with a staggering 237lb 2oz; Kieron fished the pellet waggler with 8 mil pellets. On peg 46 John Waples weighed in with 167lb 8lb to take second, John fished long and shallow with pellet. Third on the lake with 152lb 5oz was Steve Cooke, Steve was on peg 11 and fished the pellet waggler. The next best weight on the lake came from Jez Goldthorpe on peg 29, Jez fished pellet shallow on the pole for a weight of 152lb 4oz missing out on third place by 1oz.

Section Winners
Kieron Rich 9 points 237lb 2oz
John Waples 9 points 167lb 8oz
Steve Cooke 9 points 152lb 5oz
Jez Goldthorpe 9 points 152lb 4oz

'C' Section Pollawyn
The weights have not been as high on Pollawyn but some surprising pegs are producing some great weights and the weights are still fair across the section making it a real battle to the end for vital points. The lake winner today was Alex Murray on peg 32, Alex fished the pellet waggler for a winning weight of 143lb 8oz. Mick Evans took second with 99lb 6oz, Mick was on peg 21 and caught on hair rigged meat. There was a joint third on the lake today with both Andy Geldart and Mark Murdoch both weighing in with 97lb 4oz, Andy was on peg 26 and caught on the waggler & the bomb with pellet, Mark was on peg 4 and caught shallow on pellet. The next best weight on the lake came from Neil Bannister on peg 25, Neil caught across on the straight lead with pellet for a weight of 87lb.

Section Winners
Alex Murray 9 points 143lb 8oz
Mark Murdoch 9 points 97lb 4oz
Andy Geldart 9 points 97lb 4oz
Steve Bass 9 points 73lb 2oz

'D' Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Nelsons
More top weights were recordered today from across the four lakes but Twin Oaks dominated with the top three positions coming from the low numbered lake. The match winner today was Will Raison on peg 8, will caught half and half on the pellet waggler and the meat feeder for a weight of 152lb 1oz. Rob Wootton took second with 149lb 8oz, Rob was next door on peg 6 and caught on the feeder with meat. Third went to Dean Tennant on peg 16, dean caught down the edge on the pellet waggler for a weight of 124lb 13oz. On Nelsons peg 12 Pemb Wrighting had the next best weight with 115lb 12oz, Pemb caught at 19 meters on the pole with meat. The best weight on Acorn came from Simon Colclough on peg 14 with 101lb.

Section Winners
Will Raison 9 points 152lb 1oz
Pemb Wrighting 9 points 115lb 12oz
Simon Colclough 9 points 101lb
Lee Kerry 9 points 69lb 6oz

'E' Section Gwinear
Gwinear has surprised us all this week and has kicked up some good weights as well as consistent section weights. The chaps that fished Gwinear yesterday must have been very keen to get to Porth today as we have limited catch information. The lake was won by Giles Cochrane on peg 90 who fished worm shallow for a winning weight of 100lb 7oz. Neil Machin took second with 80lb 12oz, Neil fished at 13 meters towards the bar from peg 2. Ben Fisk on his first White Acres festival was third today with 76lb 2oz; Ben was on peg 50 and caught down the margins. The next best weight on the lake was 75lb 11oz and came from Chris Chadwick on peg 28 who fished towards the bridge.

Section Winners
Giles Cochrane 9 points 100lb 7oz
Neil Machin 9 points 80lb 12oz

So England ace Will Raison is in the top spot with a tremendous weight, everything is to play for going into the final day and the is clearly no out right winner, we have seen so many changes this week no one can predict a winner.

The top twenty will be posted on Saturday. At this stage I would like to take the opportunity to thank Dynamite Baits for their sponsorship and continued support, the Dynamite team will be busy this evening bagging up 180 goodie bags for all anglers fishing the festival this week, we would also like to thank all the anglers that have fished this week for once again making it a successful and enjoyable festival.

See you Saturday to find out who the 2007 Dynamite Bait champion is, Cheers Kirsty
