Crikey another festival already! This will be a tough week for us, the anglers (that fished last week) and the lakes as we have all had only one day between the festivals as due to the bank holiday we have to run this one Sunday to Thursday. This is the second year Milo have sponsored the festival and it was a tremendous success last year so we are hoping for great things again, once again it is a sell out with 180 anglers this week fishing Pollawyn, Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal, Gwinear, Porth & Bolingey. The weather forecast is mixed for the week and we are expecting some rain soon, over the past couple of days the fish have shown signs of beginning to spawn and we hope this does not effect the festival to much, but spawning or no spawning there are still points to gain so watch this space for daily updates on the White Acres Milo Festival 2008.
Day One
Drawing on a Sunday! Well I never! Clint even offered to say a few prayers at this mornings draw (especially for those going to Porth and Gwinear for their first match!) Read on for the action from day one.
A Section Pollawyn
Although there is definite signs of the fish getting ready to spawn there were still some great weights on the lake today, there is not really any areas on the lake over dominating the wins it just depends which angler is on what peg as to the top results. Kieron Rich was the lake winner today on peg 21, Kieron caught on the pellet waggler with 8 mil pellets catching 36 carp for a weight of 181lb 3oz. Second went to Ian Didcote with 134lb 8oz, Ian was on peg 18 and caught on the pellet waggler but had a few on the bomb with pellet and a few later on with pellet on the pole. John Waples had a weight of 125lb 11oz to take third, John caught on the bomb and pellet from peg 17. Simon Cordingly had the next best weight on the lake with 105lb 4oz which included our first biggest fish of the week a 19lb 13oz carp, Simon was on peg 27 and caught on the straight lead with meat and also on the pole at 4 meters with meat.

With only one days rest we did fear the worst for Gwinear but (fingers crossed) it has proved us wrong although there are still a few areas on the lake that really don’t seem to be fishing the other areas have see some good weights today. D Section Porth
Porth is still at its hardest for a while with the majority of the fish being at the wrong end of the lake, there are a few areas fishing better than others but the weights – as we saw last week – seem to move around the sections on a daily basis. The lake winner today was Tommy Hiller on peg 88, Tommy fished the pole at 14.5 meters with worms for a weight of 12lb 2oz. Second with 12lb was Steve Sanders, Steve was on peg 22 and caught on the feeder. Nigel Goddard fished maggot on the pole from peg 37 to take third with 10lb 14oz. So that was day one and for those lucky enough to start their week off with a section win they can only hope to keep up this result. As mentioned before the weather is due to change this week and this along with spawning could affect the fishing so stay tuned for the daily action.
Day Two
Well the festival got off to a cracking start, let’s hope day two produces more of the same. Luckily the rain has held off during the day but heavy down pours over night has seen some cold water go into the lakes, lets hope this has not had too much of a bad affect on the fishing. Lets see who, if any, out of our section winners on day one have managed to keep their perfect score.
A Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal
Twin Oaks is still on fine form showing why it is one of the most popular lakes on the complex, Acorn didn’t fish as well yesterday and Canal fished better with even weights across the whole section. The lake winner was Ian Didcote on Twin Oaks peg 12, Ian had 41 carp caught at 5 meters on meat for a weight of 175lb 11oz. Kieron Rich was second with 124lb 12oz, Kieron was on peg 8 and caught on the meat feeder. Derek White weighed in with 118lb 13oz to take third from peg 16, Derek caught on the pole at 5 meters with corn. Adam Wakelin was on Twin Oaks 27 and had the next best weight with 93lb 2oz, Adam caught on the meat feeder.
Section Winners
Ian Didcote 9 points peg 12 175lb 11oz
Adam Wakelin 9 points peg 27 93lb 2oz
Ray Hayward 9 points peg 17 64lb 10oz
Jason Le Bosquet 9 points peg 2 50lb 13oz
B Section Gwinear
There were 5-ton weights on Gwinear, which shows improvement in some sections although it is still the familiar pegs that are producing those weights. Martin Howard on peg 31 was the lake winner today with 190lb 14oz, Martin fished down the edge with worms and had a nice haul of carp some of which were over 10lbs. Karl Webster was second, Karl fished caster shallow towards the bridge from peg 28 for a weight of 139lb 10oz. Ben Leach was on peg 27 and ended up with 125lb that put him in third place, Ben caught 7 fish early on the feeder and then had the rest shallow on the pole with 6 mil pellet. Nick Dean was on peg 25 and had the next best weight with 106lb 12oz; Nick caught shallow at 16 meters and caught down the edge late on in the match.
Section Winners

Mark Johnson 9 points peg 47 58lb
Alan Scotthorne 9 points peg 43 35lb 9oz
C Section Porth
Once again Porth fished hard but apart from the odd bonus fish that puts you in the frame and the odd calamity, the rest of the weights are fairly tight with only ounces being the difference between 8 points and 3 points! The lake winner today on peg 86 with 11lb was Harry Billing, Harry caught some on the pole and some on the feeder with maggots and chopped worm. Bill price was second with 9lb 11oz, Bill caught on the feeder with worm from peg 85. Third went to Gary White with 9lb 1oz, Gary was on peg 40 and caught on the tip with red maggot. Adam Rooney 9 points peg 79 7lb 8oz
Mike Barlow 9 points peg 20 5lb 1oz
D Section Bolingey
Some people were disappointed with the weights on Bolingey today but what was pointed out to them you cant expect 200lb from every peg every day and there was still an average of 85lb an angler so what’s to moan about?! The lake winner with our biggest weight so far this week was Richie Hull, Richie was on peg 7 and weighed in with 192lb 10oz caught on the deck at 17 meters with pellet. Robert Kite had a weight of 112lb 9oz to take second, Robert was on peg 47 and caught mainly on worm down the edge but had a few on pellet at 7 meters. Second was Tom Wallis on 26, Tom caught on the meat feeder and the pellet waggler for a weight of 129lb 7oz. So that was day and we currently have Ian Didcote storming the leader board on maximum points with an excellent weight. Mark Pleavin also has maximum points and 26 anglers current have 15 or more points so once again this is going to be a tight festival.
There is heavy rain and even some thunder forecast for the next couple of days so unlike this time last year when we were experiencing a mini heat wave, we have reverted to the revolting weather most of us have had to endure all winter. I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest information so stay tuned.
Day Three
Today we had a bit of rain, then a bit more then a lot of rain! The heavens opened above White Acres and the temperature has dropped right back so there is a lot of cold water going into the lakes at the moment, this is going to affect the fishing and together with the wind that is still hampering some of the anglers presentation we feel the weights will be a bit lower today. Can Ian & Mark make it another clean sweep today? Read on for the action from day three of the Mol Festival.
A Section Gwinear
The cold water has definitely had an effect on the fishing today as all of the weights not just the overall have been low today. The lake winner was Ian Didcote, Ian was on peg 27 and caught on the maggot feeder and on the pole at 4 meters with pellet for a weight of 100lb 2oz, This is Ian’s third straight section win and as the lake winner today receives a free holiday back to Gold winners week in October. Second with 99lb 10oz was Rick Johnston, Rick was on peg 24 and caught on meat at 5 meters and the long pole with pellet. Roger Young weighed in with 90lb 2oz to take third. Roger was on peg 19 and caught shallow with caster. Reg Fearn was on peg 20 and had the next best weight with 80lb 14oz, Reg caught at 5 meters with meat.
Section Winners
Ian Didcote 9 points peg 27 100lb 2oz

Andy Lloyd 9 points peg 1 33lb 3oz
Ray Hayward 9 points peg 43 32lb 7oz

Will Raison weighed in with 16lb 2oz to take second, Will was on peg 87 and caught mainly small skimmers on the long pole with caster. Third on peg 76 was Lee Werrett with a weight of 13lb 4oz, Lee caught on the long pole with worm and casters over groundbait. The change in weather has really affected the weights on Bolingey with a lot of cold water currently flowing into the lake but as they say the “show must go on” and those all-important points are still there to be gained. Taking the lake win and the free holiday was Mick Wells on peg 19, Mick caught 23 carp on the straight lead with pellet and had a few down the inside with meat for a weight of 113lb 13oz. D Section Pollawyn
The weights today have been very tight across all of the sections, which is always good to see, especially on the high bank/point section where things are very close. Today’s lake winner was Terry Harrison on peg 27, Terry fished the bomb with pellet for a winning weight of 115lb 4oz. Chris Bradney was on peg 19 and weighed in with 122lb 13oz to take second, Chris also fished the bomb and pellet. Third went to Pete Bennett, Pete fished at 17.5 meters on the pole with pellet for a weight of 103lb 13oz from peg 23. The next best weight on the lake was Richie Hull on peg 25, Richie was kicking himself for not bringing the right bait to his peg for fishing the pole line as he was struggling with the bomb and feeder, he ended up fishing at 14,5 meters on the deck with meat for a weight of 95lb 6oz.

E Section Trelawney/Twin Oaks
This section of lakes has been fishing constantly well over the festival so far and even though Canal is not really up to competing with the other lakes that have both already provided us with lake wins, it is still holding its own and the weights for the section is increasing. The lake winner today came from Acorn peg 13 and it was Craig Ebberell that took the win, Craig fished pellet at 17 meters and meat at 6 meters for a weight of 131lb 10oz. Mark Pleavin was second and also picked up his third section win from Twin Oaks peg 12 where he weighed in with 108lb 7oz, Mark caught at 6 meters down the edge on pellet. Third went to Stefan Trevelyan, Stefan caught on his top 2 down the edge and at 13 meters across all on pellet and meat from Twin Oaks 18 for a weight of 73lb 7oz. So that was the midway point of the festival and Ian and Mark are still hanging in there with perfect points and both with great weights, I bet they have everything crossed for the next 2 days of the festivals and will be counting on some of the “draw bag” luck that seems to have been bestowed on them so far. This top 20 is a really exciting line up for us as it is always good to see a few wild card names up there. The are now two days left and all to play for so stay tuned for more action reports coming soon.
Cheers, Kirsty
Day Four
So, we are already on to the pen-ultimate day of the festival and the week has really flown by. It has been an exciting festival so far and today’s action did not disappoint, read on to find out who goes into the final day on the top of our leader board.

So Ian Didcote wins his first ever White Acres festival with a perfect result of 36 points, this festivals top 20 is one of the most exciting we have ever seen and it is nice to see some of our festival regulars who have supported our festivals for years finally getting their chance to shine.
Milo provided some great prizes for all of the top twenty finalists and we must thank them for their continued support and sponsorship. This has been the final festival of the spring and once again a tremendous success, I would like to thank all the anglers, and Milo once again, for making this such a smooth running and enjoyable festival.
Usually after 3 weeks of long hours and hard work over the festivals we are usually (in the nicest possible way) glad to see everyone go, but this year we were all genuinely sad that the anglers have gone and will be having the festival blues for a few days! Once again thank you to all that have supported and fished the festival and we will see you all again for the Milo Festival 2009.
Cheers, Kirsty |
