  Preston Innovations Festival 2005

Welcome to the new look Preston Innovations festival where one lucky angler will go on to pick up a massive £25,000 in the Parkdean Masters Grand Final. We are always grateful for Preston Innovations for the continued and generous sponsorship and this is why they have moved into this prestigious festival slot. There was a fierce battle for the remaining places in this weeks festival and it went all the way to the wire for some, but all the spaces were filled and the pack of 180 are chomping at the bit to get going.

As always the festival is being fished over five days with five sections fishing in rotation on the following lakes Pollawyn, Porth, Bolingey, Gwinear & Twin Oaks/Nelsons/Acorn. The final placing depends on the anglers worst result which is dropped, and then the top 24 anglers from the Preston Innovations Festival will go on to fish the White Acres Parkdean Masters One Day Final on Saturday 15th October on Jennys lake.

Most of the lakes were in last weeks festival and fished well under tricky conditions – this week there is a vast difference in the weather conditions, there is a strong breeze and it is certainly damper and cooler than last week – how will it fish? Please keep tuned in for the updates that we will get to you as soon as possible.

The festival is a qualification only event and it is a very ecliptic group of anglers with us this week, some have qualified through the earlier spring festivals and the Maver Festival last week whilst other have qualified through winning one of our weekly residents matches. This year the take up on places has been phenomenal and it is so refreshing seeing the younger anglers on the scene as this week we have four under eighteens fishing the festival that will be battling it out against the top dogs for the chance to be the Preston Innovations champion 2005.

Day One.
We have seen heavy rain over the weekend, this has cleared for the start of the festival but it is still damp and cold there are a number of extra layers of clothing being worn this week! The first draw was exciting as ever, especially for those on their first ever White Acres festival, It was over in a flash and with every angler allocated a peg it was time to start fishing.

Pollawyn
Once again it was a great start on the match lake with 3 tonne weights and great back up weights. The high bank and the points were the places to be but even on the unflavoured pegs there was still fierce completion for the vital points. Taking the lead on Pollawyn today was Will Raison on peg 20, Will had a great day fishing on the groundbait feeder and also with meat on the bomb, his amazing haul off carp gave him a total weight of 137lb 7oz – not bad for the first day! Giles Cochran took second with 113lb 1oz, Giles caught on the pole shallow and also meat on the bomb weighing in with 113lb 1oz from peg 29. Third goes to Ben Leach on peg 18 with 109lb 6oz, Ben caught on the waggler with meat.

Section Winners

Alex Murray 9 points 86lb 6oz
Kieron Rich 9 points 83lb 15oz
Kevin Sheers 9 points 46lb 6oz

Twin Oaks – Nelsons – Acorn
This is the newest section for this festival with these lakes not been used for match fishing for a few weeks, how would they perform? The wind was strong on Twin Oaks not ideal for the lake but the anglers pulled it of and there were some good weights. Acorn also held its own but the surprise was Nelsons – the top weight came from here and it fished really well. John Larraman on peg 4 nelsons too the win with 85lb 12oz, John caught with meat on the pole. Second went to Neil McKinnon on peg 16 Acorn, Neil caught on the pole weighing in with 83lb 7oz. Karl Webster (also on Nelsons) was third with 80lb, Karl caught on the waggler from peg 11.

Bolingey
Everyone always expects the best on this lake and today was now exception. The fishing is as good as ever and the only comment we had was relating to the owner who had been seen skipping around the lake and hiding in the bushes dressed as a chicken in a tutu! We have had a word with him about it, as it is putting the anglers off of their fishing – so Mike if you are reading this can you save it for the weekend please! Andy Dare took the lake win, Andy bagged up on the famous Bolingey carp weighing in with a whopping total of 258lb caught on the feeder from peg 26. Geoff Ringer on peg 20 caught short at 4 meters on the deck with meat to take second with 149lb 9oz. taking third was Richie Hull on peg 3, this is not won of the most favoured pegs but Richie out in an outstanding performance catching with meat down the edge giving him a total weight of 105lb 11oz.

Day Five - The Grand Final!
So – this is the end of the 2005 Preston Innovations Festival here at White Acres, again there has been twists and turns – we all know nobody can catch Richie who has unofficially been crowned champ already but how has the rest of the days evens changed the leader board. The draw today was especially exciting the points are so tight at the top it is still all to play for, will the draw bring tears of sadness or tears of joy!

The prizes have arrived from Preston and we cannot express how thankful we are to our sponsors for the array of goods we have to offer the winners. Read on to find out the final days action, we are a bit think on the ground with catch information as I usually obtain this from the winners in the morning but with £25,000 at stake there were certain anglers who had bigger things on their minds!!

Bolingey
Bolingey has done us proud over the past two weeks, the weights have been phenomenal again but we wouldn’t expect any less from this Mecca of a lake. The weights today were nothing special but the talent that caught them were, it took a lot of skill and patience (an a quick eye for the bites) but with determination shown by all, the hard work paid off for most and important points were won. Ray Hayward took the lake win from peg 25 with 79lb, Second with 73lb 14oz on peg 1 was Steve Ringer, Third went to Garry Webber with 71lb 13oz on peg 12.

Section Winners
Ray Hayward 9 points 79lb
Steve Ringer 9 points 73lb 14oz
Gary Webber 9 points 71lb 13oz
Skip McCabe 9 points 42lb

Pollawyn
The match lake produced some fine weights for the final day of the festival, The high bank again produced some great weights and there was a battle between Mick Dagnall on peg 27 and Darren Cox on peg 28 they seemed to be catching carp for carp throughout the day and it went right down to the final whistle. Mick Dagnall emerged victorious with a winning weight of 134lb 6oz; Darren Cox came a close second with 127lb. Derek White on peg 26 took third with 113lb 9oz.

Section Winners
Mick Dagnall 9 points 134lb 6oz
Pete Wedgbrow 9 points 70lb 4oz
Karl Webster 9 points 47lb 4oz
Tony Wilde 9 points 24lb 5oz

Twin Oaks – Nelsons – Acorn
These lakes are still full of surprises, The Lake win today came from Acorn, The weights weren’t great but they were consistent. Harry Billing won the lake with 59lb 3oz off of peg 8. Kevin Arathoon took second on peg 16 Twin Oaks with 56lb 11oz. Back to Acorn for third, Pete Wild on peg 14 took the last place in the frame with 49lb 13oz.

Section Winners
Harry Billing 9 points 59lb 3oz
Kevin Arathoon 9 points 56lb 11o
zCallum Dicks 9 points 49lb 4oz
Paul Greenwood 9 points 47lb 14oz

Gwinear
Phil Ringer took the lake win on the final day, Phil was way a head of the pack with 110lb, This is a great result for Phil from peg 25 on a lake that has certainly fished better earlier on in the festivals. Gary Hamilton on peg 20 with 72lb and next door on peg 19 Simon Willsmore took third with 70lb

Section Winners
Phil Ringer 9 points 110lb
Mark Harris 9 points 54lb

Local angler Dave Hillier took the lake win with 22lb 2oz from peg 71, Des Shipp on peg 82 took second with 20lb 12oz; Des also picked up his section and has secured his place in the Final. Des Shipp 9 points 20lb 12oz

So this is our final 24 who will be heading into tomorrows final – the names have been in and out of the placing throughout the week but down to grit and determination these are they lucky few that all have their sights on the £25,000.It was as close as ever this year with three other anglers on 31 points not making it into the top 24 and ten anglers on 30 points!!Congratulations to all of our finalists and good luck for tomorrow, the draw will take place tomorrow morning at 9.30am and then the anglers will be fishing from 12 – 4 to decide who will be the Parkdean Masters Champion 2005.We would like to that all 180 anglers in this year’s festival and especially our sponsors Preston Innovations, we are sure you’ll agree this has been one of our best festivals ever.
