  Garbolino Mosella Silverfish Festival 2007
Well welcome to the 2007 Garbolino Mosella Silver Fish Festival 2007. This is one of our favourite events of the season and in the run up to Christmas season helps us get in to the festive mood. 59 anglers are fishing this year and they will be fishing in rotation on Pollawyn (2 sections), Sycamore, Python & Jennys. It is a five-day festival and you drop your worst result. This is the fourth year of running the festival and it grows in popularity each year.

The weekend leading up to the festival saw Cornwall, like other places in the UK, battered by 80 mph winds and heavy rain, it took a brave angler (or foolish) to venture out on the lake to practise on Saturday or Sunday so for many they were going into the festival blind. Leading up to the festival we had been holding weekly silverfish matches to gauge the performances of the lake and they had been fishing fairly strongly, but with vast amounts of cold water going into the lakes and a temperature drop no one would really know how the lakes would fish until the “all-in” whistle on day one.

Day One

'A' Section Pollawyn
A section started off their festival campaign on the A section of Pollawyn which is mainly in the arms of the lake. Mark Perkins took the lake win from peg 35 with 25lb 10, Mark caught on caster at 5 sections. Callum Dicks took second with 19lb 4oz, Callum caught on the bomb with worm over groundbait from peg 8 and included in his weight was a 3lb 10oz perch. On peg 14 Grant Fear had the next best weight on the lake with 19lbs, Grant caught on worm and caster.

Section Winners
Mark Perkins 6 points 25lb 10oz
Callum Dicks 6 points 19lb 4oz

'B' Section Sycamore

Sycamore fished hard on the first day of the festival with the anglers really having to work for their weights, as the skimmers didn’t really show as expected. Steve Hemmingray took the lake win with an impressive net of roach weighing 36lb; Steve was on peg 6 and caught his roach shallow on caster. Tommy Pickering took second on the lake with 30lb 4oz; Tommy caught roach on caster shallow and some skimmers on the long pole on the deck from peg 10. Our very own Mr Elliott was third on the lake with 29lb 5oz; Clint was on peg 1 and caught on worm head over groundbait and casters at 11 meters.

Section Winners
Steve Hemmingray 6 points 36lb
Tommy Pickering 6 points 30lb 4oz

'C' Section Jennys
Jennys fished hardest of all of the lakes today, being one of the most exposed on the complex it makes it prone to suffering when we have heavy bouts of rain and cold spells. Only one weight stood apart from the majority and that came from our winner Jim Smith on peg 16, Jim weighed in with 26lb 12oz caught on the tip with caster and feeding red maggots. Martin Cocks took second on the lake with 19lb; Martin was on peg 8 and caught on maggots and casters over groundbait at 8 meters. Andy Dare on peg 19 had the next best weight on the lake with 14lb 4oz, Andy caught on the feeder.

Section Winners
Jim Smith 6 points 26lb 12oz
Anne Yates 6 points 12lb 8oz

'D' Section Pollawyn
D section took on Pollawyn today on the points and across the high bank, on our other festivals these are notorious carp pegs but in the winter it is where (if you are lucky enough to catch them) the large sholes of skimmers tend to be. Simon Fry on peg 18 took the lake win with 27lb 5oz; Simon caught 52 roach shallow and 16 skimmers on the long pole with worm. Second on the lake went to Harry Billing with 19lb 2oz, Harry caught shallow with caster from peg 30. Arthur Turner had the next best weight on the lake with 16lb 2oz, Arthur was on peg 19 and caught on cater & maggot at 9 meters.

Section Winners
Simon Fry 6 points 27lb 5oz
Arthur Turner 6 points 16lb 2oz

'E' Section Python
Python surprisingly produced the top weight of the first day of the festival and provided a lake and section win for Tony Morton with 36lb 7oz, Tony was on peg 13 and caught F1’s on the feeder. Second on the lake went to Paul Holland on peg 10, Paul caught on the pole at 11 meters with corn & casters and fed maggot for a weight of 27lb 13oz. Steve Sanders on peg 16 caught on the long pole with corn weighing in 23lb 1oz which was the next best weight on the lake.

Section Winners
Tony Morton 6 points 36lb 7oz
Grant Albutt 6 points 16lb 5oz

So that was day one of the festival and despite and bitterly cold day we saw some top results, the weather is set to become colder over the next couple of days, but thankfully no more rain, so we shall see what that does to are leader board. For the time being here are the top ten positions after day one of the festival.

Stay tuned for more daily results coming tomorrow.

Day Two
After a great start to the festival, those first day jitters were put aside and the competition was on. Overnight we had had a sharp frost and it was a very cold day. The lakes had dropped in temperature overnight which was bound to affect the fishing. Read on to find out how day two off the festival went and if we have any early leaders in the top ten.

'A' Section Sycamore
Sycamore fished fairly consistently today with the exception being lake winner Callum Dicks, Callum weighed in with 31lb 12oz he was on peg 13 and with all the big weights today fished short shallow on caster. Grant Fear was second on the lake again fishing caster up in the water from peg 12 with a weight of 23lb 13oz. On peg 10B Gary Hamilton had the next best weight on the lake with 22lb 3oz

Section Winners
Callum Dicks 6 points 31lb 12oz
Mark Perkins 6 points 18lb 12oz

'B' Section Jennys
Despite the fact Jennys is the lake most prone to suffer from cold spells there were still some reasonable weights today. Steve Hemmingray won the lake with 32lb 2oz; Steve was on peg 16 and caught on the pole with corn and worm. Micky Vials on peg 6 and Dave Thompson on peg 8 had the next best weights on the lake both with 26lb 2oz, Dave caught on the groundbait feeder with red maggot and Micky caught on the pole at 14.5 meters with corn. Section Winners

Simon Fry 6 points 24lb 14oz
Paul Yates 6 points 12lb 3oz

'E' Section
This section on Pollawyn, the arms, was probably the toughest of all the lakes today and fished very hard. Although some struggles for baits they were all surprised at what their nets were weighing at, as the roach were deceptively weighty. William Raison on peg 14 took the lake win with 22lb 11oz; Will fished caster shallow on the pole for a mixed bag. Skip McCabe was second on the lake with 15lb 13oz, Skip fished casters at 6 meters from peg 33. The next best weight on the lake came from Tony Morton on peg 32, Tony caught shallow on cater for a weight of 13lb 2oz.

Section Winners

So we have four anglers tied at the top on maximum points, can they keep up these perfect results and can Steve Hemmingray on his first festival visit to White Acres for a while hold on to his lead. Stay tuned for more results that will be coming to you tomorrow.

Day Three
So we are at the halfway point of the festival and we have seen some impressive performances so far this week. Can those anglers on maximum points carry on bagging those section wins or do we have a change at the top? Read on for the day’s info.

'A' Section Jennys
Those anglers fishing on the lower numbers of Jennys this week have suffered slightly due to the development going on behind them, there are aware they can’t really compete for the lake win but the weights have been tight for the section. Adam Wakelin took the lake win today with an impressive 30lb 8oz, Adam was on peg 8 and to give him a better chance of being hampered by the diggers he fished at 11 meters out into the lake catching on corn. Second on the lake went to Mark Charnell (Sharkey) on peg 16; Sharkey caught F1’s at 14.5 meters on corn and 25 roach shallow on caster for a weight of 23lb 4oz. On the end peg 20 Andy Partridge had the next best weight, Andy had a weight of 22lb 14oz caught on the 4-meter pole on the deck with casters.

Section Winners
Adam Wakelin 6 points 30lb 8oz
Mark Charnell 6 points 23lb 4oz

'B' Section Pollawyn
It was the high bank and point section of Pollawyn for B section today and a fair few of the anglers struggled after being “carped out” for a chunk of the match, but between the carp bites they still managed to net some sizable silverfish. Current silverfish title holder, and festival sponsor Darren Cox took the lake win today with 21lb 11oz, Darren was on peg 30 and caught mainly skimmers on the pole with worm at 14.5 meters. Second on the lake went Steve Hemmingray on peg 18; Steve fished caster shallow and also caught skimmers on the deck for a weight of 20lb 9oz. Micky Vials had the next best weight on the lake with 17lb 13oz he was on peg 17 and caught skimmers at 14 meters.

Section Winners
Darren Cox 6 points 21lb 11oz
Tommy Pickering 6 points 16lb 12oz

'C' Section Python

It was a very mixed day for the anglers on Python with some great results for some but a bad day for a few others. Andy Dare took the lake win with a great result of 41lb 14oz, Andy caught on the groundbait feeder with maggots from peg 13. With 20lb Simon Willsmore on peg 11 was second, Simon caught on the feeder but also had a few on the long pole with corn. Martin Cocks had the next best weight on the lake with 19lb 6oz; Martin caught mainly F1’s at 11 meters with corn on the deck from peg 37.

Section Winners
Andy Dare 6 points 41lb 14oz

Steve Kedge took second on the lake; Steve was on peg 14 and caught roach at 3 meters on the deck with caster and also shallow at 9 meters with caster for a final weight of 25lb 1oz. With the next best weight on the lake and also winning his section with 22lb 7oz was Paul Yates on peg 10, Paul fished the long pole at 14.5 meters with caster and maggot.

Section Winners
Timmy Rowe 6 points 25lb 13oz
Paul Yates 6 points 22lb 7oz

'E' Section Sycamore

It was another consistent day for the anglers on Sycamore with the weights being tight and evenly spread across the sections, on this lake more than any other ounces were the difference in a section win or even third. Grant Albutt was the lake winner today with 27lb 5oz; Grant fished the long pole at 12.5 meters with worms over groundbait from peg 6. Second on the lake went to Will Raison on peg 4, Will fished shallow with caster for a weight of 23lb 3oz. So Steve has managed to stay at the top of the leader for another day by weight alone, it was a tough day for some who have dropped back a fair few places but for others they have jumped substantially up the leader board, there is now two days of the festival left and also the dropped results to count, has either Steve, Simon or Paul done enough to secure a top position, you will have to stay tuned for more results coming your way tomorrow.

Day Four
Well we are at day four already, this festival has flown by. We are lucky that the predicted rain has held off for the week but it has still been bitterly cold especially for those on the more exposed pegs. For some it is hoped that they have already picked up their worst result and for other it is fingers crossed, read on for the action from day four and to see how our leader board is currently looking.

'A' Section Pollawyn
It was high bank/points for A section on the penultimate day of the festival and once again they were hampered by carp. 'D' Section Sycamore

It was a close match on Sycamore and despite some of the anglers being exposed to the coldest parts of the lake there were still some great weights. The lake was won today by Harry Billing, Harry was on peg 13 and weighed in with 26lb 4oz half caught shallow and half on the deck over groundbait. William Raison look the lake win today with 30lb 5oz, Will was on peg 3 and caught on casters at 5 meters. Second on the lake was Paul Holland on peg 13, Paul caught at 5 meters with caster for a weight of 28lb 11oz.
