England and Daiwa Dorking ace Des Shipp has been crowned the 2007 Parkdean Master after an exciting match that in the last hour that saw the lead change hands at least three times in an action-packed, star-studded event on White Acres’ Jenny’s Lake.
Drawn on Peg 0 Des netted two big carp to 11lb fishing 6mm pellets on the deck in the first 60 minutes of the four-hour final and built on that foundation to card a match-winning 75-4-0 and a £25,000 pay day.
After netting the two big fish Des switched tactics and came off the bottom to fish 18 inches deep where the middle two hours saw him bag F1s and smaller carp on 6mm and 8mm banded pellets over loose-fed 6mm pellets.
During this period he also picked up bonus fish from the margins, fishing meat over a bed of hemp and meat. |

After three hours it was clear that Bristol-based Des was edging the match, but in the final hour the venue’s carp and F1s switched on. In a tense final period there was a real challenge from Dorking team-mate Steve Sanders and Mosella Garbolino-backed John Bradshaw, who both started to catch F1s shallow at 13m and better carp on the feeder/bomb.

In the final 30 minutes it looked like either Steve and John might sneak it in the final moments and each looked to be leading until a final switch from pellet to meat on the hook saw Des pick up a decent stamp of carp, a tactic that saw him grab the spoils.
However, it was a close call, as both his nearest rivals for the coveted crown lost good fish in the final 10 minutes.
“I’m over the moon,” said Des after he’d had time to dry off after the traditional winners swim, that saw England’s Will Raison and Ben Leach join in the fun of the celebrations.

“I was happy with my draw and knew I had a good chance, as I’d walked the lake last night and saw plenty of fish activity at that end of the lake,” he added.
It was so near yet for so far for fellow Dorking rod Saunders, who finished second in the winner-takes-all event posting 70-14-0.
