  Parkdean Masters Festival 2004

Day One.

On Monday morning the 5th Parkdean Masters got under way. But this year we have changed the format slightly, instead of twelve anglers fishing the final this year we have increased the finalists to twenty-four.

The final will be held on Jennys Lake again, but instead of keeping the anglers on one side we will spread them all around the lake giving the spectators a chance to experience the tension. Sky Sports (Tight Lines) presenter Keith Arthur will be here with his crew to film the whole day. We will have a marquee set up behind the lake with information about the event, and a chance to purchase liquid refreshments.

The draw for the Grand final will take place on Friday night during the festival presentation, where the anglers will draw their peg out of the bag ready for Saturdays big event.

The lake will be open at 9am for the finalists and nobody will be allowed around the lake before that time. The Final competition will start at 12 noon and finish at 4.00pm.

If you fancy watching some of the country’s best anglers competing for one of the largest prizes in angling then come on down to White Acres where all spectators are welcome.

Day Two.

Considering we have had cold easterly winds for a couple of days the big weights keep on coming. Overall champion on day 2 was Darren Clarke with 133lb 04oz from peg 27 Pollawyn, Darren fished half depth with meat. 2nd on the day was Paul Carnwell from peg 23 Bolingey with 103lb 12oz and 3rd was Paul Blinkhorn from peg 30 Pollawyn with 103lb 08oz

The water at Porth has started to clear and more roach have started to feed. Acorn and Nelsons have made a big difference to the Twin Oaks section and you need 50lb to 60lb to win each lake.

Day Three.

Overall champion on day 3 was Tommy Pickering, Tommy drew the end peg 26 and fished a small feeder to the island opposite. He caught an all Carp bag for a weight of 111lb 04oz. 2nd on the day was Skip McCabe drawing high bank peg 28, Skip fished the long pole shallow weighing 109lb 02oz, and 3rd was Steve sanders from peg 20 Pollawyn. This was the first time this week that the peg has produced, Steve started on the feeder then swapped to the long pole catching Carp on the bottom for 102lb 02oz.

The tension has started with some anglers securing their place in the final today, we estimate that 32 Points should get you into the top 24 overall.

Day Four.

Day four and the cold easterly wind is leveling the field, you can cut the tension with a knife as its only the top six overall that can sit back with the 32 points that should be enough to get them into the final. Our hero in the fishing lodge is local angler Bob Yeomans an officer in the Navy, we call him a dope on a rope as he works for search and rescue, he puts his success to superstition and not changing his clothes for the week, I am glad he doesn’t fish to many festivals!

Overall Champion on day 4 was Kieron Rich who fished the waggler with meat shallow on peg 20 Pollawyn. Keiron kept odd fish coming all day to weigh 111lb 12oz.

2nd on day 4 was Calvin Lemon Drawing peg 28 Pollawyn and ended up with 97lb 14oz and 3rd was John Chapman with 89lb 07oz from peg 18 on Twin Oaks.

At this evenings presentation we will be starting in reverse order and announcing the festival winner first, he will then come onto the stage to collect his winnings where he will then draw his peg for the final day, this will then carry on down the order until I reach 24th place. Brian Gay Angling journalist will be with us recording the evening’s draw and taking pictures for the Mail And Times. The anglers will be able to go to their pegs at 9am to set up where the hooter will start the match at 12 noon. The match will be four hours finishing at 4.00pm. The presentation will be on the lakes edge or on the marquee depending on the weather straight after the match and will be presented by Sky Sports Keith Arthur and filmed by his team. I hope that you can find the time to come and watch Cornwall’s premier angling event at White Acres.

Parkdean Masters 2004 Day 5

Twenty four go through to the big day....
The top 24 anglers from the Parkdean Masters Festival went through to the highly anticipated Grand Final. Fishery manager Clint Elliott made the decision to double the number of finalists giving more anglers a chance of a crack at the £25,000 winner take all purse.

‘It always ended up with pretty much the same anglers in the final and I wanted to give more people a chance, the pegging might be more variable but I’d rather have the extra anglers in it than not in it,’ said Clint ‘People have been showing more interest than ever before with many more anglers still in with a chance of making the final on the last day,’ he added.
