Welcome to White Acres and News-Reel 2008 Online.

Fisheries Manager , Clint Elliott

Fisheries Team:
Jamie, Kirsty, Adam, Ben, and Karl

I cannot believe we are 5 weeks into the season already! Clint missed the first 2 weeks as he was on his annual trip to Vegas where he had a great time both fishing and in the bar by the sounds of things but don’t get him started talking about it as he still has the “holiday blues”.

Firstly we would like to congratulate our co-worker and assistant fishery manager Ben who recently became a daddy for the first time, so congratulations Ben, his partner Jo and new daughter Evie who was born on the 10th March, if she grows up to be anywhere as near hyper as her dad then I know Jo will have her hands full with the two of them!

Winter has been non-stop for the boys who have been busy out and about on the lakes getting things ready for all of your visits in 2008. Last year we introduced our fisheries questionnaire and we would like to thank all of you that filled those out, it gave us a clear understanding of some of the things we wanted to concentrate on over the closed period so fingers crossed all the fishing facilities should now reach your needs.

One of the biggest comments we had back were the missing peg numbers on the lakes, this has been an on going task for us as for some reason people like to take these home as souvenirs and some people even find the need to vandalise these, but the boys have been busy putting these all back in place and fingers crossed no one tampers with them.

Our weekly fishing programme is well up and running and so far this season we have seen some great results from the residents’ matches as well as great reports from those on pleasure sessions. The park has so far been a lot quieter than usual due to the early Easter and funny half term dates but is has been good to catch up with our regulars we have seen so far. Those of you that have already been would have noticed some changes down here at White Acres but for those of you who have not joined us yet I shall explain a couple of these.

Starting with us we have given the shop a bit of a face-lift and Ben (aka Mrs Mop) has donned his marigolds and given the place a good clean and re arrange of the shop hopefully making the layout a lot clearer for you. We have also had our floor painted which gives a fresher look to the shop and we are –when we all get over the smell of the paint fumes – really noticing the difference. As well as numbering all the pegs the boys, along with some help with some students from Sparsholt, have given the islands a proper trimming back. One of the main difference is the newest member of our team Steve, Adam left us in the winter and we wish him well in his new venture (sometimes on a still day we can still make out his dulcet tones travelling down the country all the way from Nottingham!) Steve has been with us since January and many of you know him already from fishing the local matches and also our festivals so welcome aboard Steve we hope you enjoy it here.

The park has seen some major changes and this year we will no longer have any touring facilities, the area behind us has been developed and landscaped over the winter and is now our newest owners area as well as the area behind Trelawney lake, many of the new pitches have already been snapped up but if you are interested and would like some information please give Natalie or Kate a ring in the sales office on 01726 862 111.

White Acres also has a new manager Kevin Lucock, Kevin joined us over the winter and has numerous years behind him in the business and has come from one of our sister Parkdean sites, Trecco Bay, in South Wales. Kevin has little to no fishing background but I’m sure Clint can tempt him out on the lakes as some point. I’m sure everyone you speak to on park will agree that Kevin has been a real strong influence so far so we have high hopes of things to come.

The festival season for us has already began getting off to a great start with the Van Den Eynde festival, this years winner was Will Raison and if you go to the match focus page of the site you can see a full write up of the weeks event, the sponsorship for this festival has already been confirmed for next year but will now be known as the Bait-Tech festival.

We have also held or Drennan International Junior and Preston Innovations Intermediate Festivals that were a great success and look out for the full report soon.We are now preparing for out next two festivals and then we run into May one of our busiest angling months so stay tuned and we shall try and bring you all the White Acres news and reviews as it happens.
