Welcome to the White Acres Maver festival 2016.
We have a full house of 180 anglers fishing this year which means they will be fishing over five days in nine peg sections rotating daily between lakes Pollawyn, Twin Oaks / Trelawney, Jennys / Trewaters, Porth and Bolingey. The weather on day one was torrential rain which didn’t go down well with the anglers! Read on for the first day’s action…

Day One

‘A’ section, Pollawyn

Today’s winner on Pollawyn was John Whincup on peg 27 with 85lb 8oz, John fished shallow with pellet. Wayne Sharman on peg 16 finished in second weighing in at 70lb 14oz fishing method feeder to the island with pellets. Finishing third from peg 23 with a weight of 69lb 10oz was Michael Brownell. Carl Williams took fourth on peg 13 with 65lb 4oz.

Mick Wells from peg 9 on Jennys had a weight of 119lb 8oz fishing the long pole with pellets. Simon Jones took second on peg 43 Trewaters with 96lb 14oz fishing worm on long pole. Finishing in third place was Aiden Mansfield fishing pellet up and down at 16 metres from peg 39 Trewaters and had 71lb 14oz. With a weight of 70lb 10oz Dwayne Gosling fished from peg 15 on Jennys .

With a weight of 155lb 10oz Andy Bennett secured himself first place on Trelawney fishing worm shallow from peg 10. Luke Sears finished second in his section with a weight of 132lb 10oz on peg 8 Twin Oaks fishing the short pole with pellet. Francis O’Reilly fished down the edge with ground bait and worm from peg 29 Twin Oaks and had 119lb 10oz. With a weight of 113lb 2oz was Steven Shorock on peg 27 Twin Oaks fishing ground bait.

Mark Cullerton took first place today on Porth with 36lb 4oz from peg 85 fishing pellet feeder with mini boilie. With 21lb 14oz was Jake Gallagher fishing dead maggot from peg 72. On peg 35 Richie Hull finished in third with 21lb 9oz fishing the feeder and worm. Fishing from peg 78 was Tony Oatley who had 20lb 8oz.

With a weight of 180lb Phil Canning finished first on Bolingey today fishing the short pole with pellet from peg 42. In second place Ben Hagg weighed 148lb 1oz on peg 32, Ben fished maggots in the margins and 4 metres with pellet. Gavin Liversidge fished short with pellet from peg 36 and bagged 146lb 14oz. Fishing maggots down the margins from peg 14 Alex Bradley took fourth with 126lb 13oz.

‘A’ Section, Jennys and Trewaters

Today’s winner in A section was Carl Williams on peg 41 Trewaters with 105lb 12oz, Carl fished paste at 4 metres. John Whincup on peg 43 Trewaters finished in second weighing in at 98lb 2oz fishing meat short and then the long pole with pellets. Finishing third and fishing the long pole up and down with pellet from peg 47 Trewaters and with a weight of 87lb 10oz was Andrew Griffiths. Michael Brownell took fourth on peg 27 Trewaters with 80lb 12oz fishing shallow and deep with pellet.

Andy Oldham took second on peg 8 Trelawney with 140lb 2oz fishing up and down on the long pole with worm. Finishing in third place was Darell Faletto on peg 29 Twin Oaks with 108lb fishing down the edge with worm and caster. With a weight of 98lb 12oz Steven Veale fished corn at 6 metres from peg 8 Twin Oaks.

With a weight of 12lb 8oz was Francis O’Reilly on peg 38.

Oliver Scotthorne took first place today on Bolingey with 145lb 11oz fishing 5 metres with meat and in the margins with worm from peg 19. With 138lb 12oz was Tony Oatley on peg 44 fishing paste in the margins. On peg 6 Keith Vaughan finished in third with 133lb 6oz fishing pellet down the edge. Fishing from peg 22 was Lee Farmer who had 131lb 9oz.

‘A’ Section, Trelawney and Twin Oaks

Fishing method down the edge from peg 16 Twin Oaks was Wayne Sharman with 176lb 8oz. John Whincup on peg 33 Twin Oaks weighed in at 144lb 1oz fishing shallow with pellet and down the edge with worm bagging mainly F1’s. Finishing third in the section and fishing the long pole with pellet from peg 10 Twin Oaks was Mick Brownell who had 143lb 4oz. Andrew Griffiths took fourth on peg 14 Twin Oaks with 135lb.

Fishing down the edge with worm and meat across was Thomas Moretti who had 76lb 12oz from peg 1.

In second place David Crandon weighed 92lb 10oz on peg 29 Trewaters, David fished pellet long on the deck. Steve Barraclough fished at 14.5 metres with pellet from peg 14 Jennys and bagged 91lb 3oz. On peg 9 Jennys Dave Bruton took fourth with 83lb 10oz fishing pellet feeder.

Sandra Scotthorne on peg 74 finished in second weighing in at 14lb 13oz fishing the feeder with maggot. Finishing third and fishing the short pole from peg 20 with a weight of 14lb 1oz was Alan Scotthorne. Andy Power took fourth on peg 35 with 13lb 8oz fishing the feeder with worm.

Today’s winner on Bolingey was Andy Power on peg 27 with 172lb 8oz, Andy fished corn in the margins. John Whincup fished the feeder tight to the island and margins with corn from peg 17 and had 145lb 15oz. Finishing third and fishing pellet in the margins from peg 34 with a weight of 141lb was Colin Dumphy. Kristian Powers took fourth on peg 11 with 137lb 9oz.

On peg 6 Twin Oaks Ben Richardson finished in third with 81lb 12oz and caught on Bomb and pellet. Fishing worm and feeder at 11 metres for Carp and F1’s was Kevin Baxter who had 77lb 5oz from peg 23 Trelawney.

Congratulations to Ryan Bennett for winning this year’s Maver festival here at White Acres, with four section wins and an overall weight of 385lb 11oz Ryan fished consistently well all week, and well done to Richie Hull and John Whincup for finishing second and third.
