It’s that time of year again, the Preston festival is on and this year we have a full house of 180 anglers fishing over 9 peg sections rotating daily between lakes over 5 days. The lakes being used this year are Pollawyn, Twin Oaks / Trelawney, Trewaters / Acorn/Canal, Porth and Bolingey.

The top 24 anglers at the end of the week will go on to fish our prestigious Parkdean Masters this Saturday on Jenny’s where the biggest weight at the end of the day wins a massive £25,000 so the pressures on!

The weather on last week’s Maver festival was glorious sunshine all week but unfortunately this week has taken a turn and is drizzly and cold, so let’s see how this affects the anglers…

Day One

‘A’ section Pollawyn

With 77lb 4oz James Dent won Pollawyn today fishing from peg 30. Richie Hull finished second from peg 27 with 60lb 12oz. From peg 23 was Jamie Parkhouse with 57lb 1oz. Paul Carnwell had 52lb 1oz off peg 29.

‘B’ section Twin Oaks and Trelawney

Sam Collett had 185lb 2oz swapping from the pellet feeder and paste at 5 metres from peg 16 Twin Oaks. Kevin Wadge fished from peg 12 Twin Oaks and had 111lb 8oz. With 108lb 8oz Gavin Leversidge took third on Twin Oaks from peg 6. Also on Twin Oaks Tony Parnell had 86lb off peg 14.

‘C’ section Trewaters, Acorn and Canal

John Whincup fished 16 metres to the island with pellet to secure first place in c section today with 99lb 7oz on peg 37 Trewaters. Matt Godfrey finished a close second on 5 Acorn with 96lb 3oz. Also on Acorn was Mitch Rawlinson with 84lb 3oz from peg 13. On peg 9 Acorn was Steve Mazza with 78lb 12oz.

‘D’ section Porth

On Porth today Phil Canning won the lake with 30lb 13oz fishing the method feeder at long range with corn and mini boilies from peg 86. With 30lb 3oz Andy Power caught on the method feeder and long pole with pinkies from peg 72. In third was Callum Dicks who spent most of his day fishing the waggler with maggots and caster off peg 36 and had 28lb 13oz. Steve Ringer caught 23lb 13oz of small fish from peg 16 on the short pole with maggot.

‘E’ section Bolingey

Rob Jones fished bomb and bread against the island and meat on the short pole from peg 16 on Bolingey and had 160lb 4oz. On peg 27 Simon Colclough had 153lb 6oz catching most of his fish at 5 metres with pellet. Rob Wootton had 142lb off peg 34 fishing at 5metres with meat. With 135lb 6oz was Jon Arthur who fished most of the day in the margins with meat from peg 32.

Day Two

‘A’ Section, Twin Oaks and Trelawney

Stephen Barraclough was first on Twin Oaks today with 189lb 5oz fishing the long pole pinging 6mm and 8mm pellets, then in the margins later on from peg 16. Lee Thornton on peg 25 Twin Oaks finished in second place with 123lb 11oz fishing the method feeder with pellet and in the margins with maggot. Finishing third on peg 14 Twin Oaks with 117lb 4oz was Greg Roberts who fished long pole with pellet and down the edge. Ben Fisk took fourth place on peg 25 Trelawney weighing 97lb 10oz fishing the long pole with pellets.

In first place on peg 15 Acorn was Jamie Wilde with 106lb 14oz, Jamie spent most of his day fishing the margins with worm. Tommy Pickering took second place also on Acorn fishing long pole with pellet to catch 30lb and the other 70lb of Carp down the edge from peg 11, he had 99lb 11oz overall. Finishing in third place was Paul Holland on peg 3 Acorn with 78lb 8oz. Paul fished short with worm and meat.With a weight of 73lb Andy Geldart finished in fourth place on peg 17 Acorn fishing 4 metres for silver fish and bagging 8 Carp on method.

With a weight of 20lb 8oz Malcolm Dunlop secured himself first place on Porth today fishing the open end feeder all day with worm and mini boilies from peg 71. Jack Harness finished in second place with 19lb 7oz on peg 40 catching mainly small fish on worm. In third place was Nick Speed on peg 38 with a weight of 18lb 5oz, Nick fished the feeder at 20 metres and the long pole with chopped worm and maggots. With a weight of 17lb 9oz was John Whincup fishing at 7 metres with maggot from peg 32.

Andy Power took first place today on Bolingey with 167lb 12oz fishing between the long pole with pellets and in the margins with meat and corn from peg 40. With 165lb 8oz Steve Ringer swapped from long pole with pellet but found maggots to be better down the margins on peg 44. Fishing on the long pole with meat Robert Kite had 126lb from peg 17. On peg 34 Darren Cox finished in fourth place with 113lb 4oz fishing meat at 5 metres off peg 34.

With 74lb 4oz Gary Thomas finished first on Pollawyn today on peg 19. Steve caught on everything! In second place Lee Farmer had 70lb 12oz off peg 17, Lee swapped between the waggler and pellets and the long pole with meat. Richard Bond finished third on peg 31 with 64lb 10oz. Richard had all his fish on the long pole with meat. On peg 26 Gavin Bridge took fourth place with 61lb 4oz swapping between the method feeder and bomb and pellet.

Day Three

‘A’ Section, Trewaters, Acorn and Canal

Today’s lake winner on Acorn was Paul Carnwell with 95lb 8oz fishing the pole with red worm over groundbait catching mainly Carp and Skimmers from peg 1. Dave Geldart on peg 33 Trewaters finished in second place with 91lb fishing the method feeser with 6mm pellet. Finishing third on peg 51 Trewaters with 78lb 12oz was Colin Dumphy. Colin fished the long pole with 6mm pellet. Lee Thornton took fourth place on peg 12 Canal with 74lb 11oz fishing the short pole with maggot to catch F1’s and silver fish.

In first place on peg 16 on Porth today was Sam Collett with 48lb 10oz, Sam caught all Bream on the method feeder with dead red maggot. Gavin Leversidge took second place fishing the method feeder using a mini boilie on the hook from peg 71 and had 25lb 12oz. Finishing in third place was Lee Kerry on peg 81 with 20lb 12oz fishing the long pole with chopped worm and caster. With 16lb 10oz Jason LeBosquet finished in fourth place fishing the long pole with caster off peg 40.

With a weight of 162lb 2oz Mark Cullerton secured himself first place on Bolingey today catching all his fish down the margins with pellets from peg 36. Matt Godfrey finished in second place with 158lb 12oz on peg 6 swapping from the long pole with 6mm pellets and the 5 metre line with meat. In third place was Joe Kent on peg 3 with 126lb 14oz, Joe swapped from the long pole and short pole fishing with 6mm and 8mm pellet. With 124lb 14oz Steve Conway fished bread and meat on the short pole and margins from peg 38.

Darren Cox took first place today on Pollawyn with 130lb 4oz, Darren swapped between the long pole and waggler with pellet and double meat from peg 28. With 71lb Steve Ringer on peg 45 took second place fishing long to the reeds with pellet. Fishing most of his day on the short pole with meat from peg 23 was Michael Mcmillan who weighed 60lb. On peg 15 Ian Hudson finished in fourth place with 54lb 10oz. Ian fished the long pole in open water with meat shallow.

With a weight of 140lb 13oz Rob Wootton finished first on Twin Oaks today on peg 16. Rob caught most of his fish on the bomb and bread. In second place Andy Leathers had 118lb off peg 12 Twin Oaks fishing the long pole on the deck with pellet. Paul Cristie finished third on peg 18 Twin Oaks with 98lb 3oz fishing short in the margins. On peg 27 Twin Oaks Gary Thomas took fourth place with 89lb 6oz fishing most of his day on the method feeder.

Today’s lake winner on Porth was Simon Fry fishing the feeder all day catching decent sized Bream on pellet and mini boilies from peg 17 and bagging himself 17lb 2oz. Cameron Hughes on peg 89 finished in second place with 13lb 7oz fishing all day on the waggler. Finishing third on peg 40 with 13lb 5oz was Tom Wallis who caught a mixed bag on the feeder with worm. James Dent took fourth place on peg 71 weighing 12lb 7oz fishing on the feeder with a mini boilie tipped with a red maggot.

Paul Holland took second place on peg 27 with 132lb 8oz catching most of his fish at 6 metres with meat. Finishing in third place was Alan Scotthorne on peg 30 with 118lb 8oz. Alan also fished the short pole with meat. With a weight of 114lb 12oz Lee Kerry finished in fourth place on peg 34.

In third place was Adrian Higginbottom on peg 26 with a weight of 74lb 12oz, Adrian caught at 5 metres with meat. With 64lb 2oz was Nigel Cornwell fishing bomb and 6mm pellet from peg 19.

Tom Edwards took first place today on the famous peg 16 Twin Oaks with 159lb 8oz fishing the short pole with paste. With 129lb 4oz Wayne Ibbotson and Andy Power took joint second place on Twin Oaks. Wayne fished the long pole with pellet and maggot down the margins from peg 14 and Andy caught all his fish on the pellet waggler from peg 25. On peg 12 Twin Oaks Danny Bennett finished in fourth place with 117lb 12oz. Danny fished at 14.5 metres on the deck with pellet.

In second place Paul Cristie had 78lb 15oz off peg 15 Acorn, he fished the long pole with pellet. Alex Hulme finished third on peg 27 Trewaters with 72lb 8oz fishing meat short. On peg 25 Trewaters Rob Jones took fourth place with 67lb 15oz fishing the long pole with pellet.

‘A’ Section, Bolingey

Today’s lake winner on Bolingey was Nathan Watson fishing the long pole with maggot from peg 45 and had 140lb. Jamie Parkhouse on peg 11 finished in second place with 135lb 8oz. Jamie fished the long pole with pellet. Finishing third on peg 13 with 135lb 2oz was Jamie Hawkins catching all his fish on meat at 5 metres. Lee Thornton took fourth place on peg 18 weighing in at 134lb 2oz.

Preston Innovation Festival 2015 Winners

A massive congratulations to Matt Godfrey for winning this year’s Preston festival with an overall weight of 386lb 8oz, he had a really good week winning his section for 4 days and coming second in his section once. He had 44 points in total dropping 8. In second place was Callum Dicks with an overall 306lb 6oz also with 44 points and dropping 8 and in third was Andy Power with a great weight of 485lb 14oz, well done guys.

It has been an intense week with it being very hard to predict who was going to make it through to the top 24 and fish the Masters the following day but the overall result is looking to be a very tight and exciting final with £25,000 at stake the pressure will be on….
